Review

Angela Reinhardt, in her book Pointe Shoes Tips & Tricks, tells us how, after seeing a performance of Invitation to the Dance with her father at the age of nine at the magnificent Deutsche Staatsoper unter den Linden, the ballet changed her life. She tells us it created a passion for ballet - how she became a ballerina - and the thrill of having her first pointe shoes.
She gives a short history of the development of the pointe shoe is made (and this is what all dancers want to know) the tips and tricks of how carefully to dismantle parts of the pointe shoe: to tune, adapt, fit and mould it to the foot. I found it fascinating because during my entire career I had so many problems with my pointe shoes - always looking fort he perfect pair. I had several tricks myself but learned many more after reading this book. What to do if the shoe is too big or small, if the heel slips off, or if it is too high, if the block is not square enough - to name just a few! Well, you have the answer here. Also, there are excellent exercises, again well illustrated, for strengthening the foot, and exercises for relaxation, all beneficial and important. ...
This book is excellent and has obviously been inspired by the necessary quest to find one's own personal pointe shoe. Some people may be lucky but many, as the author says; "can often take years to find their 'own' pointe shoe". A race against time, when you think how short is a dancer's career. But here you have a valuable guide. I congratulate Angela Reinhardt on writing such a book - and recommend it highly. I think it is a real gem and should be in every ballet school's library.

good shoes 26 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
I would recommend this book to anyone studying ballet not just pointe work. Easy to follow ways of modifying and dyeing shoes with a problem/solution text and photo images of each stage. I would never of thought of dissecting my shoes in this way to make them comfortable and work better, however the techniques really work.Although you have to be brave and sure you want to cut open and restitch your shoes before trying any of the techniques!

PPT (perfect pointe tips)!!! 5 Aug 2008
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I recently got my first pointe shoes and was very excited with them, they were what I'd worked so long for. A little while later I received an Amazon gift card but was not sure what to use it on. After choosing and receiving this book, I was completely enthralled. There were a few things that I was hoping to read about that I did not find, but there were also more things than I expected, such as useful exercises and interesting history.

Great tips for intermediate/advanced pointe dancers! 15 Mar 2011
By Haley Mathiot - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was very satisfied with Pointe Shoes: Tips and Tricks. It was packed full of more information than I expected and thought possible in such a small book (it's a quarter inch thick, perfect size for a dance bag). There were sections on how to pick the right pair, info and history about pointe shoes, tips and tricks, and physical therapy exercises on how you can fix up and strengthen your feet.

The main section of the book, the tips and tricks, is on how you can cut, sew, trim edit, change, and fix shoes to make them fit the foot exactly. Some of these tips I encourage you to use for your flat shoes too!

Pointe Shoes Tips and Tricks is a fantastic resource that every intermediate/advanced pointe dancer and teacher should have!
