Product Description

From Amazon.com

The 11 tracks of Chevelle's Point #1 pour out more passion in 42 minutes than most people will experience in an entire year. It is an album that will brand you. Not because of offense or unashamed shock tactics, but because the emotion offered batters into the soul and causes it to shudder in resonance with the writhing of the music. Applying simple and poetic reasoning, Pete Loeffler's lyrics exhibit the tension between life's paramount questions and heaven's inscrutable answers. The dualistic nature of his vocals (reminiscent of Tool's Maynard James Keenen) displays a trembling meekness that often abandons itself to full-throated roars of aggression. This meticulously rhythmic debut carries the fingerprints of Steve Albini's recording genius. The production is just raw enough to preserve the unfeigned vexation from which it was born, yet clean enough for each lashing expression to communicate its full fervor. Dynamics crest and fall as the storm-tossed melodies cut through a raging sea of edgy guitar and undulating drums. Leaving a curiously enjoyable lack of resolution, the weight of these songs beckons the listener to repeat play. It gets better every time. --Israel Button

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't wait for point # 2, 9 May 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Point #1 (Audio CD)
I first heard these guys on a couple of surfing and snowboarding videos .... and impressed by their sound I tracked down this album ( gotta love those track credits at the end of said videos ).

This album rips , it starts off on the first track ( open ) with a nice building instrumental and without stopping goes straight into track 2 ( point # 1 ) just charges and does'nt let up .

You really do get caught up and feel the songs , there's some real energetic emotion fueled stuff ... nice and loud but not shouty and distorted like some nu-metal pre-pubesent mask wearin crap around at the moment , the singer's got a great voice and his brothers ( from what I can gather on the sleeve notes they're all brothers ) can really play .

Can't really compare it with anyone or pigeon hole it to a style .... it is just good old hard rock music that does'nt let up from start to finish , hard and loud with some nice slower and quieter moments to break it up , this is the best rock album i've bought in the last 5 year's.

5.0 out of 5 stars omg omg omg omg omg woooooooow, 20 Jun 2011
This review is from: Point #1 (MP3 Download)
OMG before I give my reasons as to I'm insanily crazy about this album, let me just say this is one of the best albums I have ever heard. The only reason I even know about them is because LastFm.com suggested them to me. I'm a loyal Staind fan but after I heard I was literally feeling as if I was in the studio with them.

They sound so organic that it's unbelievable, if you are metal, hard-rock or alternative rock fan you are absolutely going to love this. Everything has been perfectly performed so such a way that can't be compared to any one, it's such a great album that not even the greats can be compared. It has such an organic sound to everything, it all sounds great. You are really going to get lost with them when listening because they will take you a trip that you never get tired of. In short, ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars buy this, 24 Aug 2006
This review is from: Point #1 (Audio CD)
i heard this album after buying 'this type of thinking...' and 'wonder what's next', which are much harsher sounding and at first was disappointed at the simplicity of the songs. however, after listening to them again i realised how amazing they actually are. chevelle seem to have taken influences from tool in the way they use long intros before bursting into quality songs, which simply get better with every listen.
definately worth buying but very different to thier later stuff.
