Owen Sheers is not only an interesting and thought-provoking poet, he is also an accomplished television presenter. I hope that the BBC will produce a second series, as this format of visiting the landscape that has inspired a given poem, and then relating it to some aspects of the poet's life, whilst at the sane time interviewing a contemporary poet's view of the poem,is one that results in a well-rounded and enlightening programme. Having the series on DVD has made it possible to study the points raised by Owen Sheers in more detail. Some of the poems are well known but I felt I had a deeper understanding of them as a result of this series. This was particularly true of Mathew Arnold's "Dover Beach". I knew little of Lynette Roberts but as a result of the excellent introduction to her work in this series, I have since bought her book of Collected Poems. Hopefully, this series and others like it will inspire more people to take an interest in Poetry.

This BBC series can be enjoyed by both beginners and poetry lovers. We would order more if there were subtitles which are necessary for the hard of hearing and non native speakers.

This is a fantastically inspirational series. Owen Sheers takes the viewer on a scenic tour of the beauties of the British Isles in order to comment, in his easy-on-the-ear Welsh voice, of some of the best poems of place he could find. He is scholarly in approach while remaining totally accessible. He comments on the poems, and interviews people to break up the programmes. The most stunning thing is the way the cinematography displays the poems, with the words appearing over the views of the place written about. The choice of poems doesn't just play it safe either. For example he includes Lynnette Roberts, who is a little less well known.
