Book Description

17 Feb 2010
The author is an award winning artist and textile designer who has studied both in her native Norway as well as New York. She has found her greatest source of inspiration in museums that chronicle antique needlework of exquisite workmanship, which she has adapted into intricate knitted sweaters. There is a section showcasing extraordinary christening caps and folk costumes reminiscent of visiting a Scandinavian museum. Some of the women's sweaters feature couture shaping as well as quite a few with European designs and a sportier fit. Finishing instructions are quite detailed although this is not a book for beginners.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting patterns knitted in the round. 30 May 2010
Verified Purchase
The beauty of the patterns in the book is breath taking. Cardigans, sweaters, baby outfit, and girl sweater, top in a truly magnificent style.
One star off for using one, and only one type of yarn (not easily avaiable outside author's motherland - Norway).
Please note, patterns are knitted in the round, and cut. This is a bit unusual technique, but enables intarsia type of colour change in every row. I think they lend themselves to adaptation for machine knitting, but I will have to investigate furhter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful 25 Jun 2011
By Dawn
This is a beautiful book that I have wanted since I first read about the first edition. At the time, the Australian dollar was very low and later, second-hand copies were SO expensive. It is lovely to have a reprint and was worth the waiting.

The designs are beautiful and are mainly colourwork in fine Norwegian wools. The designs were inspired by antique textiles and traditional clothing and both the desings and their inspirations are shown. The photographs are very professional and inspiring and the overall layout is excellent.

This is a truly beautiful, inspirational book by a first class designer whose talent shines through on every page.
