If Ogden Nash, Dr. Seuss and Friedrich Neitzsche got together to write a book of poetry for emerging adults, they'd probably be disappointed to find Tom Skinner had beaten them to the punch.

For children with brains (And who doesn't have one?), this book of offbeat poetry blends creativity and entertaining turns of phrases to get readers aged 9-14 to think outside any boxes convention may try to impose.

Along with your kids, wrap your brain around such works as 'Einstein's Cat', 'Woks Happ'ning Bro?' and 'Stop and Smell the (Grumpy) Roses.'

**This collection of poems will ignite your kids to reason on their own while developing unique views of life with its inconsistencies, diversity and immutable wonder.**

Taking off on the works of the wild-haired Father of Physics, Einstein's Cat takes the equation off the blackboard and gives your children permission to think on their own.

Some writers mistakenly talk down to young readers.

Tom speaks with his audience in a unique voice that is refreshing, encouraging, adventurous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Concept 23 July 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I looked forward to reading EINSTEIN'S CAT because it was 'different'. I didn't realize how different it was going to be. I'm watching my niece (5) and nephew (1) today and thought i'd read it to them also. Kids are so much smarter then I was at their age. I didn't think they (my niece anyway) would understand what I was reading to her but she was on my lap so I read. She didn't understand most of the poems but she enjoyed the pictures. Then I got to Lettuce Play. This one she understood. She was rolling on the floor by the time I finished the first page of it. So I don't know if she liked all of it or just that part. So for that one alone you should read this book. It will take all of 5 minutes to get through (15 if your a slow reader).

Nice nerdy little collection of poetry for kids, particularly 'Einstein's Cat'. I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS cat leads the way! 13 April 2014
By teacher annie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A poetry book needs a theme, and not all is revealed on the cover!! 'Einstein's Cat' contains a diverse collection of funny and even eccentric poems, for the entertainment of kids who love the fun of quirky words and ideas. As a parent or teacher, you have probably already had some fun together with word association, punning, and experimentation via various forms of literature. As a teacher, I know that kids and teens love ideas from left field, a play on words that makes them giggle, and stretches their creative language skills. Tom's book lifts poetry, puns and ideas from the ordinariness of life, to playful comments and musings about lettuce and lyrca, as you do!
Get the young readers to let loose with mad word associations, silly syllables or gormless giggles, in the bean bag with you, the car, or anywhere at all. And maybe there could be a discussion about Einstein in our world, and what his cat MAY have seen along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Witty 16 Sept. 2014
By Carissa - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I wasn't sure exactly what kind of poetry to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised when I sat down to read the book.

There are ten poems in all and each is quite witty and entertaining. Personally, I believe the Lettuce Poem was the best and if for nothing else, you should read the book for that. It's a good introduction to poetry and it shows that not all poems have to rhyme or that occasionally they do.

It's a quick read, but quite enjoyable. You won't regret picking up this book.

(*Note I received this book in exchange for an honest review in LibraryThing's Member Giveaway.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea to combine silly phrases 15 Sept. 2014
By G. Marsella - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Great idea to combine silly phrases, puns, and cartoons with poetry - these should really encourage kids to start playing with words and ideas while having fun at the same time. My big objection is that it's so short. Ten poems and ten cartoons - probably could fit on ten pages. Even Dr. Seuss books are longer. Any child sophisticated enough to read or understand these will want way more. Additionally, just as an aside, there is a book on Amazon with the same title - Einstein's Cat. It's also poetry, although not apparently for kids.
