With his career in decline after losing a deal with his recording company, one can only wonder what mood Womack was in to craft this soul masterpiece.
The first five tracks are superbly skilled tunes that are typical of some of Womacks earlier recording.A master songwriter, he puts all his skills to good use with the standout tracks being "Just my imagination & Secrets".

However its on the final three tracks "Games, If you think you're lonely now and Where do we go from here" that Womack begins preaching to his listeners, allowing those gritty vocals to stretch out and deliver what must be his greatest ever vocal performance.
This is mindblowing soul music........ buy it!

"If you think you're lonely now" elicits the soul renching inner being of Bobby.If you lsten carefully, his message in the song is delivered with the conviction of a master.
Bobby Womack's best album.

Bobby Womack's "The Poet" is simply one of the greatest Soul albums ever made--in fact, I'd go so far as saying that it's his best work ever. "So Many Sides Of You", "Lay Your Lovin' On Me" and the major hit "If You Think You're Lonely Now" are masterpieces of classic Soul which will take you back to an era when music that was real (and from the heart) was the norm as opposed to the exception. An undisputed Soul classic.
