About the Author

A bit about the author: Ian lives with his wife Kate, baby girl Lizzie and little boy Toby in Witney, Oxfordshire. He loves writing poems and stories for children of all ages, and when he's not doing that he manages to fit in a job as Deputy Head at a Primary School, where he also teaches a Year 2 class. He wrote his first poem in the year 2000. Called 'When Brian Eats His Breakfast', he made up its two verses on the bus to work to help his class with alliteration and to read words with two consonants next to each other, like brian and breakfast. Other poems then quickly followed, inspired by the children he was working with and written as a classroom resource. His first published poem, 'The Hunter', is included in 'Read Me Out Loud: A Poem To Rap, Chant, Whisper Or Shout For Every Day of the Year' by Nick Toczek and David Harmer. --- A bit about the illustrator: Mike Dicey lives with his wife in Beckenham, London, but is originally from Zimbabwe. From an early age he loved drawing and illustrating, particularly cartoons, caricatures and people. He keeps busy running a graphic design business and for part of the week works in the design department of a large financial company.

I bought this book as i have a love of poetry and the title has even got my 5 year old son interested in it and is now wanting to take it to his schools show and tell.
Its a great book for all ages, young and old, and a brilliant Christmas present.
The words fit in perfectly with my day to day life of being a pre school teacher and mother and the pictures are great.
A must for any Christmas list and book shelf!!!

This is a great book for children and parents alike. The poems are fun, interesting and engaging. Your children will enjoy exploring poetry with this book and if you look at the authors website there are plenty of tips and ideas for children to get started writing their own. Ideal as a gift or stocking filler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great poems for exploring in or out of school 15 April 2013

As a mum, I have had great fun sharing these poems with my 8 year old at home - she knows most of them off by heart & often asks for one (or two!) after a story, before she goes to sleep. Her favourite is 'Biscuit Girl'! We both enjoy the fun colour illustrations and clear layout.

As a teacher, I have successfully used the poems for word play, alliteration and so on in Literacy and also some poems lend themselves well to SEAL themes. 'Anger' works brilliantly as a springboard into discussing ways of controlling our tempers. Children love to give a group performance of this poem - perhaps as a whole class split into the 2 sides; everyone joins in the chorus, muttering it 'under their breath'! This can be very effective and can then lead into the children colour-coding a copy of the poem to show signs of external and internal anger. If you're a teacher, try it!

All in all, a short but memorable collection of poems that can be imaginatively explored or simply enjoyed with children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 8 April 2013
By Ricardo
Not sure what Robin is on about, I suggest he is in fact one of the people he praises in his review and is seeking to diss the competition. My children absolutely love this book, great poems, well thought out and my sister uses it to great effect in her school. Fantastic.
