By R. Wallace VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
And it is so true! Some of life's best secrets, remain secret, unless a few of us are lucky enough to find them. This CD is one such example of one of life's undiscovered gems! CD1 of this album is nothing short of a pure romantic's classic! It is worth the price for the lyrics alone! They are inspiring to the extreme! They touch, tease and caress every angle of love, passion and loss. Check out track 7......."im living in your dreams, I'm where you cannot be, i'm way out of your reach, i'm where you cannot see. Is it you, or is it me?" (been there?) Now add some of the most talented "dance" and "chilled" female vocalists of the last decade (Kirsty Hawkshaw of "BT" fame, Jennifer Mc Laren, Leigh Nash), mix superb production (I mean superb - the arrangements here would make Madonna weep!), and a little superlative song writing by Bill Leeb, and you have a CD written only because they had to write it, simple as that! The opening track "Innocente" is one of the few songs I know that is totally lyrical, yet the music and lyrics go to bed with each other in sublime fashion! Other highlights include the sheer passion of "Myth" (check out the amazing trumpet chorus line)and "a poem for byzantium" - a true love song in every sense of the word! POEM will not be to everyone's taste (Oasis fans forget it), but I challenge ANY reviewer who claims to like the new so fashionable "chilled" scene, and who can appreciate superb and diversified female lyrics without a hint of "folk", to buy this album. In a sense it is like true love.......once sampled, you will never forget it! An undiscivered masterpiece swimming high in a sea of medeoicre compilations (if you have never loved, this CD may just inspire you!). Brilliant.

Excellent work 10 July 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Bill Leeb (Delerium) has done a great job. The songs are incredible...each one is multiple layered with sounds and voices and instruments. Listen to it with earphones and you'll be surprised how beautiful and colourful music can be! For the first time Bill Leeb has used real instruments and a male vocalist. On every song there's this mix of electronic and real strings, guitars and even choirs! Live drums mixed with electronic drum beats. Normally on his earlier albums, the songs are electronic instrumentals. On Poem we can only find 1 instrumental! Another instrumental track is "Terra Firma" (not listed in the track list above) is the fifth track on the bonus disc and is featured in the new Tomb Raider movie. --The very first pressing of Poem, which was only available as an import, had a track called "Temptation" on, an extremely beautiful track which features Lisa Gerrard, who did the soundtrack for "Gladiator". In Canada and USA, Delerium is known as a gothic ambient band....but over here in the UK...due to the success of the Silence remix by airscape...people think they're trance. -They're not! Delerium used to be more ambient, but for this UK release, they selected the more "commercial" tracks. Beautiful pop ballads and dance tracks. -On the bonus discs are 3 trance remixes.

First heard Silence on a compilation album and was interested enough to buy Poem without any hesitation. Poem is brilliant especially through a good set of headphones. Its a wall of sound that you'll play again and again....and I have.

This isn't even trance ...
... It's silly sappy pop music for people looking for a sort of "gothic spice girls" kind of an album, very cheesy and pretensious. Read more
