A pocket guide must be concise, comprehensive, accurate, readable and easy to dip in & out of in a hurry.
Pocket Tutor Psychiatry ticks all the boxes.
Before reading it, I feared that a pocket guide could not cover enough relevant content to be useful. I was wrong to be skeptical. The succinct writing style imparts large amounts of information clearly and crisply.
Every chapter begins with a clinical scenario, placing content into the appropriate practical context. The rest of the chapter is a judicious blend of text, tables, charts and bullet points that allow the reader to rapidly navigate to the part they're interested in. Psychiatry is frequently an intimidating subject for medical students and junior doctors. I feel that this book's astute balance of readable and comprehensive content will positively engage the next generation of doctors, hopefully drawing more of them into the field. Definitely worth getting!
