Book Description

8 April 2012 1907816062 978-1907816062 1
Practical, handy guide to chest x-ray interpretation, designed for medical students and foundation doctors on the go and highly affordable for those rotating through modular courses or working on attachment. Highly affordable price and convenient pocket size format fits in back pocket! Indispensable aid: all hospital doctors deal with chest radiographs but students and junior doctors lack confidence interpreting them. Logical, sequential content: relevant basic science; understanding normal results and the building blocks of abnormal results; then clinical disorders. Clinical disorders illustrated by a full page chest radiograph with brief accompanying text on facing page that clearly identifies the defining features of the X-Ray (in other words, what is it that makes this pneumothorax?).

It far exceeded my expectations. Great for my visiting students. Better images than you get in some full sized books.

5.0 out of 5 stars CXR novice no longer 23 Aug 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This pocket-sized guide from JP Medical's Pocket Tutor series focuses upon Chest X-ray Interpretation.

At just over 200 pages long, it is divided into pathology-based chapters: Thoracic infections, interstitial lung diseases, bronchogenic malignancy and metastatic disease, pleural disease, mediastinal disease, airway pathology, pulmonary oedema. There are also introductory chapters on first principles, normal and abnormal results and a final chapter on lines and tubes in the chest.

The text is clear and succinct. In addition to differential diagnoses tables, there are key facts and clinical insight sections.

The images are generally well-chosen, with arrows often marking the most important features. The systematic approach to CXR interpretation is well illustrated.

Like all of the books I have seen from this new and rapidly-expanding series, it works best if used as an introductory text or revision aid. Rather than replacing the Oxford Handbooks series, the Pocket Tutor series is a useful adjunct, probably best suited to use by clinical medical students and foundation doctors.

Used this for my PgC in Chest reporting, not a definitive text by any means but a great book to carry with you. Very good.
