5.0 out of 5 stars Nice 20 Dec 2011
By Lego Man TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Imitation Leather|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This compact New Testament is novel, because not only does it include the Book of Psalms, which I've seen in other editions, but also the Book of Proverbs.

The book features a very pleasing cover, made of a material the publishers call TruTone. It's nice to the touch. The pages are gilded silver effect, which is a nice finishing touch.

As regards the translation itself, it is a good translation, and it seems to me that it is quite similar to the Revised Standard Version. It appears to be an accurate translation. I had a look at some of my favourite Psalms, 23 and 51, as well as the beginning of Luke. It's a good, solid translation. There are very brief notes at the bottom of the page, but these are very brief and are not doctrinal in nature.

The text is easy enough to read and the layout is very good. There are good introductions to the New Testament, and each book of the New Testament has a very brief introduction. At the end of the book, there is a brief guide to salvation from an Evangelical perspective, as well as a guide to various passages of Scripture which may be helpful according to different needs. In this respect it is very similar to the Gideon Bible.

On the whole, I was impressed with this edition. It has a very nice pastoral tone to the introductions and I think it would make an ideal edition to carry in the car or on your person. It encourages readers to pray, to read the Scriptures, and to attend a church where they will experience the Christian fellowship necessary for growth.

5.0 out of 5 stars nicely produced 22 Dec 2011
By downkiddie TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Imitation Leather|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This modern translation of the bible is attractively presented in leather effect binding with silver page edges. The text is small but clear and readable. Each chapter is presented with an introduction, summarising the chapter and providing a little information on when it was written. There are additional chapters on how best to read the bible, a programme to read it in 30 days and it also provides references for chapters and verses to turn to when facing problems or needing guidance. The book is desgined as an introduction to the bible rather than one for people more familiar with it, however being so small, thin and lightweight even the most devoted would find it useful to take with them.

The New Testament is well produced in a quality leather binding. The size is such that it will fit into a pocket or handbag. My only reservation is the size of the type. As my age increases, I find reading small a type face to be difficult, but the type face is quite clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little Bible 31 Dec 2013

This is the third New testament I bought for some Confirmation Candidates and again it is a lovely book. Font again not the biggest, but is readable which is important.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes - really waterproof! 28 Nov 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
First things first: if you're like me, you want to know if this is really waterproof or not (I mean, if you just wanted any old New Testament, you'd probably not start with this one!). So, in the interests of science and investigative reviewing, I ran a sink full of water and dropped my copy right in. Pushed it under the water. Stirred it around for a while. Then pulled it out and left it to dry for a while.

Not one damaged page.

Not all that surprising, really, since it's made of some kind of plastic (although you'd never know it just from examining the book; the pages feel like those in a glossy magazine - shiny, but certainly more like paper than plastic). Since my first experiment I've taken this out while walking the dog and read it in the driving rain. Also dropped it once in a muddy puddle, took it home, and washed it up in the sink. Still as good as new. Amazing.

I'd give it five stars, except for me there were two little niggles. First, it's a little on the big side. I don't mind small print, so would have liked something I could more easily shove in my pocket - this edition is just a bit too tall to comfortably do that. And second, why in the world does it include Proverbs? I mean, I understand that there seems to be a market for "New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs" - but why? Why not Job, or Isaiah, or Genesis too? Proverbs just seems an odd choice, and if it weren't there the book would be just a little slimmer and more manageable.

But small quibbles. It's a great product, and well worth picking one up if you do a lot of walking, camping, outdoor sports, or just like washing up your Bible.
