I bought this as a gift for a friend and regular Scrabble opponent, because I've had one myself for years and find it most useful. It is truly portable - you could use it on trains and planes, while away on holiday - anywhere in fact. You don't have to have a table to play on. As the "tiles" stick to the board magnetically, you can make your move and pass the board to the next player. You don't need pencil and paper to tot up the scores, as each side of the board has a slider to mark off digits, tens and hundreds. (You just have to remember to add the score to your own side, and not bump up your opponent's score inadvertently!)
A couple of downside items about this new version. (1) The enclosed leaflet doesn't tell you how many of each letter there should be in the pack, so you can't do an occasional audit to see if you've lost any. (2) If you do lose any (which is easy to do as the tiles are small and a bit fiddly), there are only 2 spares to make replacements with.
