5.0 out of 5 stars Concise, easy to read - great little book! 28 Nov 2010
By jaxyp
Format:Paperback
For such a small book, I couldn't believe how much was in it! After reading, I felt I had a very clear idea about Multiple Intelligences and the background research around the topic. An easy to read format with in depth information and plenty of detail but not too heavy or difficult to get into. This book helped me to consider my current professional practice and look at ways I am already implementing techniques (without really realising!) as well as giving me ideas for future development.

I loved the split page layout with the concept on one side and the ways to apply on the other - very handy! Layout is simple and catchy with lots of bullet points, charts and annotations which illustrate the points effectively. The activities to try are practical and insightful and this book will definitely be in my desk drawer at all times for future reference. A highly recommended read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A pocket full of information! 3 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
A fantastic resource for any classroom practitioner that helps to explain how and why different people seem to learn in different ways and possess different skills and talents. This book appealed to me for two main reasons:
1)Mike Fleetham explains ideas very clearly and succinctly
2) The ideas widened the way I thought about intelligence.

The book is packed with many ideas ready to be used in the classroom. It is split into easily read sections with the concepts behind each section explained alongside many suggestions for application. I've already put many of the ideas into effect within my classroom practice with positive results!

The book offers simple and practical suggestions to ensure that we all look for the different ways in which people learn and appreciate that we all have the potential to achieve. It's varied layout makes the book fun and easy to read with chapters filled with interesting content, diagrams and illustrations.

A wonderful book to add to your teaching toolkit resources.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of information in pocket size 30 Nov 2010
By lb1
Format:Paperback
The description on the back promises "practical Aided Learning". This is a promise that is delivered. The clear introduction allows readers to flick to pages that particularly interest them. The general layout is very reader friendly. Concepts are simply explained and the ideas and tips presented are useful within a real life classroom context. I particularly liked the MI creative matrix giving a wealth of practical teaching and learning experiences which can be used as an inspiration for trying out new MI activities in the classroom.

This book has got me thinking about the pupils I teach and will hopefully influence my understanding of how they learn. It is an easy to read resource which would be of relevance to new or experienced teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little gem 29 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a very easy to read book with heaps of practical suggestions to use in the classroom. The layout is very reader-friendly with its generous use of colour, pictures, bullet points, charts, speech bubbles and tables. Fleetham starts by giving his reader a basic grounding in different theories about intelligence - and ensures that he includes book or website references to allow the reader to pursue a more in-depth study. He goes on to explain seven key areas: the eight (and a half!)main intelligences; how to identify learners' strengths (while not labelling them, and always encouraging them to improve ALL their intelligences); classroom resources and layout; how to enrich your teaching; and how to succeed in MI. And although by necessity each topic is brief it is clearly explained.

This is a lovely wee book for teachers (new or experienced) but also for parents - the kind of book that you could have for sale / loan at a parents' evening, for example.

If you want some great ideas on how to motivate your teaching and your learners, then look no further!
