I can tell you now that this book is a gem. It has helped me for years on end with academic research and I always find the word I'm looking for. The explanations in the book are detailed, without using words which are over-complicated. It also says briefly where the word originated from and gives deriveatives. Very impressive for a smaller dictionary.

if you are looking for a small dictionary to pop in your pocket this is not the one. Its more handbag or desk sized.

Huge - not pocket size at all
This dictionary is good as would be expected from the Oxford range, however, it is sold as a POCKET dictionary. This is very misleading as the dictionary is huge and not portable. Read more

pocket price
I needed a dictionary to help with my law degree at the Open University but not an expensive one. I was stunned when this arrived it was just like new. Many thanks Amazon.

You'd need a big pocket
Any dictionary is going to be a compromise between depth of definitions and how concise it is ... But if it defines itself as 'pocket' then it should live down to that size. Read more

"new" does not mean better
NEW POCKET OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY is not new, it is abridged although the editors claim it is updated. Check out all possible vulgarisms that come to your mind... Read more
