Brilliant - a cool looking SatNav that knows where it's going!, 22 Aug 2006
This review is from: Pocket LOOX N100 - Ultra - portable GPS reciever (Electronics)
Just bought one of these and they are really tiny, with the looks of an Apple product and just a bit wider than a mobile. At the moment it is supposed to be the smallest on the market and if, like me, you don't like leaving expensive items in the car you'll appreciate its compact dimensions.
The operating system (Microsoft Windows CE Core 5) makes the product really easy to use and the fact that this will work as a portable MP3 with a built in speaker is really handy - the supplied 1Gb Mini SD card seems to have plenty of spare room for songs. The speaker can go to a very high volume for such a small package and whether it is the polite voice of the machine letting you know when to make your next turn or the latest dance anthem emerging from the N100 the sound is always clear.
I really like the Navigon 6 software - the 3D view in particular makes things easy to follow and the spoken instructions seem to come in a timely manner. I tried this out when going to a garage in deepest darkest Birmingham and the route it gave coped effortlessly with some fairly new roads and a tricky one way system around the centre.
Overall this is a great SatNav if you value portability, looks and useability. I haven't seen anything else that falls into this price bracket and offers anything like the kind of features that this has (it's even got some retro games on there). If you like gadgets you'll like this - I've shown it to friends and colleagues and they've all been impressed.

Satnav and MP3 player all-in-one., 18 Mar 2007
This review is from: Pocket LOOX N100 - Ultra - portable GPS reciever (Electronics)
All-in-one Satnav unit.
Does a good job in all aspects. Very smooth and fast routing. Has postcode search and voice tagging capability for addresses. Excellent touch sensitive screen, which can be operated single-handedly by fingertip or thumb. Two taps to operate most functions. Designed for use by drivers on the road. Comes with 9 maps covering 37 countries in Europe all ready to go without more payment to "unlock" them for use.
Long battery life and compact size makes it a very versatile unit. Can be easily used on foot and kept in the shirt pocket. Built-in SiRF star 3 GPS receiver means fast lock-on to GPS satellites. Signal is maintained even in city areas with tall buildings. Does not required external antennae, even in such a challenging terrain for SatNav.
Set to "fastest route" to use motorways all the time. Set to "shortest route" to avoid motorways all the time. There is also a "scenic route" option for your holiday driving. I have found the "Lane Assist" feature to be most helpful, especially at unfamiliar round-abouts.
MP3 player plays MP3 files straight from the box. Latest software update includes a player for video files and a JPEG viewer. You'll be very impressed by the slide-show player. Has zoom, rotate and touch-screen panning capabilities. Excellent way to keep your family pictures with you while you are on the go. Also has in-built microphone for voice address recordings. MP3 player is integrated into the navigation software interface, allowing built-in easy and safe access to control "buttons" while navigating on the road. Music player also plays WMA and AAC files.
Believe it or not, PacMan and "Arkanoid" in colour is included. Game "keypad" is cleverly designed via virtual "buttons" on touch-screen. To top it all, you will also find a calculator and a world clock with alarm for your travels.
Built quality is excellent. Comes with a 1 GB mini SD card. Able to read 2 GB cards, so plenty of space for your own files. UK map only takes 300 MB. Hence, can also be used as a portable USB Flash disk. Plug and play with any Windows 2000 or XP computers using supplied USB cable. Also charges via USB cable. Very convenient design for the road warrior.
No other Satnav unit is comparable in combined terms of satnav performance, number of maps included(all of Europe), value for money and multi-functional utility. Good support on the Navigon website too. Only thing missing from the box is a case, which can be ordered on Amazon.
Although not a "well-known" brand in UK, it is a real pleasure to own and use. Give it a try and you will be pleasantly surprised.
It is rapidly rising in my personal "Best buy of the year" charts!!
Highly recommended.

Pocket LOOX N100, 11 Dec 2007
This review is from: Pocket LOOX N100 - Ultra - portable GPS reciever (Electronics)
when i first bought the Pocket LOOX N100 setting it up was a breeze, but i found it very sluggish, didnt respond very well to screen touch, it was very annoying as i had heard that it was a good sat/nav, so i looked around on the forums and soon found that it needed a firmware update, so downloaded it from fujitsu siemons website, that really did the trick, its excellent now responds very fast, and very accurate, and wouldnt be without it, with the upgrade firmware you can use multimedia as well, play music, vids and store pics...longest trip i used it on was when i picked up a car a couple of weeks ago from Sheffield city center, didnt have a clue on directions, my home was 216 miles away, i punched my postcode in and it got me home with no problems at all, only one complaint is the voice is just a little quite for my likings, so if u got a noisy car u may struggle with hearing the voice instructions, but what i did was just follow the directions on screen, i have heard there is a hack for it to take tom tom software, havent tried that yet, havent needed to because i am happy with what i got, its small and will fit in your pocket easy, they were selling these on the Aria website, but discontinued them for some reason, but it had a lotta great reviews, so yeh i think this is a great little gps/sat/nav
