5.0 out of 5 stars Satnav and MP3 player all-in-one. 18 Mar. 2007
By Neo
All-in-one Satnav unit.

Does a good job in all aspects. Very smooth and fast routing. Has postcode search and voice tagging capability for addresses. Excellent touch sensitive screen, which can be operated single-handedly by fingertip or thumb. Two taps to operate most functions. Designed for use by drivers on the road. Comes with 9 maps covering 37 countries in Europe all ready to go without more payment to "unlock" them for use.

Long battery life and compact size makes it a very versatile unit. Can be easily used on foot and kept in the shirt pocket. Built-in SiRF star 3 GPS receiver means fast lock-on to GPS satellites. Signal is maintained even in city areas with tall buildings. Does not required external antennae, even in such a challenging terrain for SatNav.

Set to "fastest route" to use motorways all the time. Set to "shortest route" to avoid motorways all the time. There is also a "scenic route" option for your holiday driving. I have found the "Lane Assist" feature to be most helpful, especially at unfamiliar round-abouts.

MP3 player plays MP3 files straight from the box. Latest software update includes a player for video files and a JPEG viewer. You'll be very impressed by the slide-show player. Has zoom, rotate and touch-screen panning capabilities. Excellent way to keep your family pictures with you while you are on the go. Also has in-built microphone for voice address recordings. MP3 player is integrated into the navigation software interface, allowing built-in easy and safe access to control "buttons" while navigating on the road. Music player also plays WMA and AAC files.

Believe it or not, PacMan and "Arkanoid" in colour is included. Game "keypad" is cleverly designed via virtual "buttons" on touch-screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pocket LOOX N100 11 Dec. 2007
when i first bought the Pocket LOOX N100 setting it up was a breeze, but i found it very sluggish, didnt respond very well to screen touch, it was very annoying as i had heard that it was a good sat/nav, so i looked around on the forums and soon found that it needed a firmware update, so downloaded it from fujitsu siemons website, that really did the trick, its excellent now responds very fast, and very accurate, and wouldnt be without it, with the upgrade firmware you can use multimedia as well, play music, vids and store pics...longest trip i used it on was when i picked up a car a couple of weeks ago from Sheffield city center, didnt have a clue on directions, my home was 216 miles away, i punched my postcode in and it got me home with no problems at all, only one complaint is the voice is just a little quite for my likings, so if u got a noisy car u may struggle with hearing the voice instructions, but what i did was just follow the directions on screen, i have heard there is a hack for it to take tom tom software, havent tried that yet, havent needed to because i am happy with what i got, its small and will fit in your pocket easy, they were selling these on the Aria website, but discontinued them for some reason, but it had a lotta great reviews, so yeh i think this is a great little gps/sat/nav

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks very nice but not ideal for car use. 3 Jan. 2007
Summary:

Looks +

Size +

Menu system +

Crashed, a lot -

Battery would not charge -

On screen instructions too small -

Voice very quiet -

Scared to use motorways -

Car kit -

Lack of support -

It took almost 10 minutes to gain a satellite, every time it was used not just the first time. -

The test:

For three weeks leading up to Christmas I searched high and low for a GPS device which would meet the needs of my old man. It was really quite simple, the screen needed to be large enough to read and be clear, the volume quite loud with easy to understand instructions, the functions easy and the size had to be small yet suitable for clumsy hands and as a bonus, I rather liked the idea of a unit which would be multi-purpose, a 'photo viewer', a 'carry-around' navigation unit as well as the standard car mounted unit. I read reviews on the usual suspects, Tom Tom, Garmin etc and after quite a bit of research with time running out I stumped for the Loox N100; it's Siemens after all and everyone knows how good they are plus it looked nice and did everything I wanted.

The unit arrived, no problems there. The packaging was nice and professional, so it was just a case of waiting until Christmas Day when we could all witness the look on the old mans face as he realised that for once he'd not been presented with a triple pack of 'Simpsons Socks' and a hand knitted scarf. Sure enough, he was delighted and as you'd expect the Siemens Loox N100 was quickly subjected to rigorous testing.

The unit doesn't come with an instruction booklet, well, not a proper booklet as the user information is on the DVD which accompanies the item.
