This is a very good middle-range film scanner. The quality of the scans are top-notch, and the accompanying software is full-featured for its purpose. Build quality seem solid, and the unit is small an unobtrusive on my desk.

The software do crash on rare occasions, but it is not a serious problem.

Scan speed is fine, and the highest resolution is so detailed you can see the individual film grains clearly (ie. it is actually too good for practical use).

The only thing I really miss is an adaptor for some of the old compact camera film formats (110, 120), and the old larger film formats (126, 127) since I have a goodly stash of those.

I've only just started using this unit, which was nice and simple to set up, although I foolishly didn't realise that it is not self-loading. You therefore have to feed your slides or neg strips in one frame at a time. Others I've used will self feed and do four or five frames at a time without you needing to be present.

The software is good, but lacks a good or useful help file. I had to search the web to find a document that explained what the settings and options really were and how to use them in laymans terms. The supplied pdf operating manual is split into various different files, and seems to contain random chapters rather than the complete book. The file names are also somewhat spurious so you don't know which of the 10 or so pdf files contains the info you actually need. Frustrating. There are lots of technical settings which I do not understand yet, but it does produce good scans with the options set to auto.

Great product 17 Aug 2011
This scanner scans to a very high standard and extracts a lot of information from my slides and negatives. The only criticism is that the SilverLight software is buggy and crashes quite often especially if you use its options to resize and rotate preview images. Also it is a bit slow so settle down for a long night if you want to scan a lot of images. Quality is good once you learn how to use it, but again the higher quality settings are very slow.
