Product Description

Product Description

Stephanie Plum has a way of attracting danger, lunatics, oddballs, bad luck ... and mystery men. And no one is more mysterious than the unmentionable Diesel. He's back and hot on the trail of a little man in green pants who's lost a giant bag of money.

Problem is the money isn't exactly lost. Stephanie's Grandma Mazur has found it, and like any good Jersey senior citizen she's high-tailed it in a Winnebago to Atlantic City and hit the slots.

With Lula and Connie in tow, Stephanie attempts to bring Grandma home. But the luck of the Irish is rubbing off on everyone. Lula's found a job modeling plus size lingerie, Connie's found a guy, Diesel's found Stephanie. And Stephanie has found herself in way over her head ...

In this Between the Numbers novella, Stephanie Plum teams up once more with the eerily supernatural character Diesel. Diesel is hunting a man who thinks he is a leprechaun and who can communicate with animals a la Doctor Doolittle.

In the meantime Stephanie is hunting Grandma Mazur, who after having found a duffel bag full of money has gone on the lam to Atlantic City to play the slots.

This is a predictable trot through the usual Evanovich themes. Because this is a between the numbers, Ranger and Morelli only get a mention and the action focuses on the peripheral figures of the main novels.

I quite like the between the numbers series, but it is frustrating that the supernatural stuff is clearly never going to be explained, and as enjoyable as these may be to write, the conceit here is wearing a little thin. This is a slim volume and will take a couple of hours to trot through at most, which is the other thing I find tricky. Paying the same price for one of these as for one of the regular Plum outings seems a little unfair when you get considerably less novel for your money.

As a die hard fan, however much I grumble I'm always going to read them and I guess that's where she's got you. If you have stuck with Evanovich this long you're going to be reading it whatever. And don't get me wrong, it's still amusing and ticks all the Plum boxes, just not for very long.

another crazy stephanie adventure with all the usual escapades. its st patricks day and grandma mazur has found a big bag of money!!! so she runs off to atlantic city in an RV with stephanie, diesel and a leprechaun (or so he thinks he is) as they discover whose money they are spending they realise they are dealing with the Mob so have to get money back. But grandma gets kidnapped so they are racing against time to get her back. stephanie's car gets blown up and for those who are new to Plum books this is not a one of event and grandma is as hilarious as ever!!

Not good AT ALL! 18 Nov 2009
By Kat
This was the first of the between-the-numbers books that I read and I was very disappointed. I don't think this book was aiming for the strongest storyline, just a funny and cute festive read but it even failed at this. I love the Stephanie Plum series and I really thought this book dragged the whole thing down. The story just felt flat and not thought through at all. I think Evanovich sold out with these 'holiday specials'.
