Product Description

Product Description

They make up nearly one-third of all Americans living today. Born after1980, they're now pouring into the work world with values, aspirations, and approaches that differ markedly from their parents - and coworkers. They're Generation Y.

In Plugged In, Tamara Erickson shows Gen Y's how to use their own unique strengths to understand and influence their professional relationships, to figure out how they define "success," and to help them find their way in the changing workplace.

Filled with Erickson's extensive research into demographic trends and thoughtful insights, Plugged In gives Gen Y's the information they crave to connect with the working world and to craft the lives they want.

With her trademark warmth and liveliness, Erickson provides a thoughtful, valuable guidebook to the latest newcomers on the corporate scene.

About the Author

Tamara J. Erickson is President of The Concours Institute, a member of BSG Alliance, a firm serving senior executives with leading-edge intellectual capital. Tamara is also an Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of the firm and leads the human capital practice.

She is a widely respected expert and speaker on the changing workforce; on the shifting relationship between individuals and organizations; and on enhancing workforce productivity. Her work is based on extensive research on changing demographics, employee values, and the challenges facing today's employers; the first multi-year study, Demography is De$tiny, explored the implications of current demographic changes on human resource practices, and the second, The New Employee/Employer Equation, developed new and powerful approaches to increasing employee engagement through segmentation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Perspective, 5 Feb 2009
By Zach Beauvais (Shropshire, England) - See all my reviews
Plugged In explores the way the newest members of the working world interact. The differences between life and happiness expectations are discussed, with interesting propositions as to why they may exist. Character sketches and narrative are superb.

I did find the tone slightly glossy, and the overuse of "Generation Y" slightly jarring, but on the whole, it's certainly a worth-while read. I'd highly recommend it to HR management and corporate consultants.
