From the cover.... 12 Jan 2008
Format:Hardcover
A Chelsea dinner party at the home of art gallery owners James and Victoria Harting sets in motion a chain of events that will leave none of the guests unscathed. Artist Jack Carey is the guest of honour, along with Ellen, his long-suffering wife, whose job it is to keep Jack's mind off other women and on his paintings. But the evening ends with Jack slipping James's exotic sister, Tessa, his business card, much to the despair of Tessa's love-sick husband, Alexander. Casting a cool eye over the proceedings is Ginevra, Victoria's intellectual, fiercely plain university friend. Her detached gaze absorbs the subtle nuances at work beneath the conversational hum, but even she cannot foresee the shocking events about to unfold.

I loved this book! Compelling characters and story which quickly sucked me back into a sun-dappled upper-middle class world before mobile phones, fax machines, Big Brother etc etc. Love, lust, passion, feuds... this book has it all.
Blissful escapism from beginning to end and a perfect book to read in the bath after a long stressful day.

Format:Paperback
No one picks up a novel like this expecting Chekhov or Zola, but honestly...The style of writing verges on the infantile. Especially unpleasant is the author's smirking at the one character she has created who is not from the wealthy, white wine-swilling, art gallery-attending Chelsea/Sussex countryside set. The story reveals much about the author's self-satisfaction and narrow-mindedness, and nothing about human nature.
