I found this book extremely useful. It gives clear, well presented guidance on how to approach the development of a plot. The task is broken down in a logical way, and presented in a friendly and informative tone. It's a very readable book, packed full of the kind of information a budding writer needs. I would highly recommend it to anyone planning their first novel.

If you are about to embark on the turbulent seas of writing your first novel this is your lighthouse! Excellent advice on the basics and a helpful list at the back of further reading (p.128). Since this book was published there are many more 'how to do it books' on the market but probably best just to absorb the basics in this book and write as much as you can before you do any more reading about writing. Always best to practise, practise, practise.
