I was fortunate enough to catch an advanced screening of Plot For Peace and would recommend it to all. This film is a gripping, revelatory insight into what went on behind closed doors in South Africa running up to Mandela’s release, and it is through this film you realise just how much of the story was never before seen by the public eye.

The film pulls together an impressive mix of high profile political figures from the time for interviews, not just from South Africa but from across the world. (Winnie Mandela proves particularly captivating.) Having said this even with the great many high-profile interviewees, and the surprising amount of transnational involvement, Plot For Peace is firmly one man’s story; Jean-Yves Olliver.

Jean-Yves Olliver is a truly fascinating man. In less than 5 minutes Plot For Peace can turn a casual viewer into one itching to know everything about this mysterious figure, and his clearly deep involvement in releasing Mandela. Despite being his first real appearance in front of a camera, Jean-Yves Illuminates his tale with fun mannerisms and charming honesty, without ever really loosing his compelling, enigmatic presence.

The story that Jean-Yves tells is both inspiring and surprising, while offering some engrossing truths regardless of how much you may or may not know about Apartheid South Africa. In short, I believe this film is a must-see.

I was lucky enough to see an early screening of this film. This film is a very poignant journey of Mandela's rise from prisoner to president of South Africa, focussing on the man who was instrumental in securing his freedom. A must have for anyone who wants to truly understand the long struggle to freedom that Nelson Mandela strove for.

First watched at Sheffield docs fest. A subject I am well read on, but this documentary shed a brand new light upon it. Reminded me a lot of The Imposter in style and definitely re-watching over the weekend after the sad news yesterday
