I will split this review into three sections: (1) the hardware, (2) the bundled software and (3) other comments.

(1) The hardware
The player feels good, and it has an attractive design with high-gloss black plastic on the top and on the front. On the top there is a greyish-blue ripple effect (not as obvious as on the Amazon product image). Despite its low weight, it feels quite well-built!
I like the top-loading design choice as it saves space when inserting and removing discs.
The stop/eject button could have been done better - it is a little flimsy and it is overly large. But it works, so there really is no problem. Also included is a blue activity LED, which I find is too bright (I wouldn't watch a movie with this LED flashing behind or beside my computer). But, of course, this can easily be covered up by placing an object in front of it. It should be mentioned that I, perhaps, am quite sensitive with this sort of thing. I consider all activity lights on electronics to be too bright and too obvious.
All in all: Good hardware with a few minor flaws that are not big enough to subtract from the overall rating.

(2) The bundled software
Included with this player is CyberLink PowerDVD 9 BD, which, of course, is capable of playing Blu-ray Discs. There is not a lot to say about this. The software works great and is easy to work with. Just be sure you update the application as soon as you launch it! There should be an update of around 100 MB available, which will greatly improve the application. If you were to watch a BD before updating, you would be very disappointed with the picture quality of your Blu-ray Disc! This update is crucial.
Also, be sure to deactivate all of the TrueTheater Effects crap that the application comes with!

Small, USB powered device. Truly portable. Very silent. Plastic housing brings me ambivalent feelings - it doesn't feel solid but it's light and nice looking too.

+ price
+ USB powered, no external power supply needed
+ silent
+ smooth playback

- plastic housing doesn't feel solid
- annoying blue LED

Bought one, Delivered within 24 hour of purchase. I was bit worried because with this sort of price I may not get the right staff..

But Its absolutely fine (play Blu-Ray, DVD - all of them), Works very nice, easy to use and Not even noisy (a little - but that is acceptable). Comes with PowerDVD Software, cable -all you need.

It works with MAC as well. However I had PowerDVD installed in my MAC already (Supplied disk only works with Windows not with MAC, so you may have to get that separate).. Can Play DVD in MAC without the PowerDVD. it may differ machine to machine.

So it's Pretty Cool.. Only thing I can't say that is "how long it gonna last?"
I'll let you guys know in few months, that for sure.. :)

It's a bit noisy, but I guess it's a common issue for portable and slim players. BTW it's the only Blu-Ray reader at this price and furthermore it's USB powered, so it's completely portable and also if you will use it on your desktop it's always convenient to avoid an AC Adaptor, in fact I bought this especially for this feature. ;)

It's quite elegant although the material seems a bit pour, but the 2 years warranty should guarantee at least 2 years of use.

Beware that this is only a reader not a combo drive, so it will read BD, DVD and CD but cannot write any of this media, but this is not a big deal, I bought it to get rid of discs not to burn new ones. I had bad experiences in the past years with burned discs, like loss of data after several years, and you never know where to place them; better to save all your data on hard disk since now are so cheap and with a large storage.

The BD speed is only 4x but there is no need of more speed and furthermore I don't think usb 2.0 would support more than 4x (BD 4x is much hiher than DVD 4x). If you need a higher speed BD player forget USB 2.0, buy instead a usb 3.0 drive if you have already an usb3 port.

Got this for Christmas (thank you) and am very happy with it. The picture quality is excellent, it also upscales DVD's, so they look great too.
Got it because my Sony Vaio internal blu ray drive broke, was replaced, and broke again; just when the warranty ran out!
Obviously the quality will depend on your pc and the actual discs that are played. Also the DVD player is not set to any region at all - this can easily be set, or you can use the excellent anydvd program and keep it region free.

I had no problems setting this up out of the box. I'm using it with my Acer 5532 laptop running windows 7. I installed power DVD from the disc provided, plugged the Plextor BD drive into a USB port, put in a Blu-ray film and I was away. Playback was smooth and no problems. The drive is quiet in operation and has a blue light on the front that flickers as the disc spins. I think this is a great price if you want to be able to play blu-rays on your laptop or computer.

I paid £80 for this external drive! it is brilliant, it is one of the fastest drive for Blu-Ray, and via USB you can't really complain. I've had no coasters so far, and it's pretty quiet too.
