Pleasure In Hawaii 24 Jun. 2011
By Beverly Jackson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Here is my review from romanceincolor.com

Career-minded Sloan Hepburn is quite excited about her promotion to director of guest relations at her company's luxury resort located on Maui. Sloan has made up her mind that, even in Hawaii, work will come first, but she is open to a non-serious relationship, if the right opportunity arises. Divorced Gene Malloy is the sole owner of the bed-and-breakfast inn, Malloy's Bed and Breakfast, and while he would welcome someone new in his life, she would have to play second-fiddle to the inn. But, a chance encounter with a "sneaker" wave has Gene saving Sloan from a possible accident, and both walk away with a smile on their faces, wondering what has just sneaked up on them. There is an instant attraction between Sloan and Gene, and the flirtatious bantering between them leaves no doubt they have unfinished business to explore. Will romancing in paradise allow Sloan and Gene to appreciate, not only the beauty in Maui, but the beauty of their love?

This touching romantic story is beautifully written, and explores the emotions involved when two people are falling in love and have their own doubts about a long-term commitment. I enjoyed Sloan's and Gene's journey of falling in love, as the progression of the relationship is natural and realistic. While Sloan tries very hard to keep to her promise not to mix business and pleasure, just looking at Gene makes her forget what's appropriate in the workplace. However, while she knows the heated glances Gene is shooting her way has nothing to do with business, she is smart enough to always act appropriately in the workplace.

I commend Archer for the way he handles Sloan's and Gene's behavior in their workplaces, and this should be a model for other couples in similar situations. The hero's struggle with his fears of a long-term commitment, while wooing Sloan with the beauty of the island and his searing passion, is both charming and romantic. The passion between the couple is electrifying, and the loves scenes are numerous and steamy.

Secondary characters aid the story, by subtly showing Sloan and Gene how other couples have loving relationships without sacrificing their career goals. Maui was not only the location of this story, but acted more like a character, as the author made the locale come alive and aid in the blossoming romance. Many readers will be noting some of the locales and plan for their own romantic adventure.

It was very refreshing to read a romantic story without a lot of drama, and with a couple that most people can identify with. While the storyline may be a predictable boy-meet-girl and fall-in-love storyline, the author gives it a fresh feel with the steamy love scenes and realistic situations. Archer writes a great romance and traditional romantics will savor this book long after the last page is read.

PLEASURE IN HAWAII is the first book in the Passion in Paradise series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and the romance in Oahu.

Sorely Disappointed 9 Feb. 2013

I've never read a book by Devon Archer and because of this book I probably never will again. I kept waiting for the climax of the story, a true obstacle for the couple to overcome, and it never really showed.

This book had no substance. The characters had no depth, the only redeeming quality in this book was the sex scenes and even those became boring after awhile.
Pleasure in Hawaii 27 May 2011

Rating 4.5
Gene Malloy own Malloy Bed & Breakfast in Maui, Hawaii. Gene is ready to start living again he has been divorce for 2 years and is ready. From the moment he met Sloane he could not stop thinking about her.

Sloane Hepburn couldn't help but smile after relocating from Raleigh, North Carolina after getting promote to director of guest relations a opportunity she just could not past up. Although the ideal of leaving her family and friend behind was not easy and since she didn't have a special man to keep her in NC she made the decision that the job will come first.

From the moment they met Gene & Sloane felt the instance attraction between them. It like love just fell into there laps neither was looking. Sloane jog every morning and on this day was no difference with the exception of meeting Gene. As Sloane was jogging a sneaker wave upon her and that split second she though that the wave was going to sweep her away until she felt these arms lift her out of the wave and the moment she saw this man she was a gone.

As Gene was out he saw what happen and his first reaction is to save the woman and the moment he save her and look into her eyes he knew he was in trouble.
With any relationship there is some issue that needs to be worked. There whirlwind relationship takes off. I think Devon description is what the book is all about. "From the moment Gene rescues Sloane from the sneaker wave she makes his most passionate fantasies come true and for Sloan how can you be romance under the tropical island sky and not fall in love.

For Gene & Sloane it happen from the moment Sloane thank Gene for saving her life there relationship took off she work at the Grand Resort Island Shores Hotel where she is the new Director of Guest Relations and Gene is the owner of Malloy Bed & Breakfast. You will see there journey to love and boy is it a good and bumping ride. You will enjoy this book and Devon takes you to Maui as if you are there with Gene & Sloane. After reading this book I am planning a trip Maui, I ask Devon if this B&B is really there......
The second book in this series comes out in December so I can't wait to see what part of Hawaii Devon is taking us to. Oh yeah can you see yourself taking in the site and making love under the stars......................they do...HOT HOT HOT

Smooches
Louise
