When I first listened to this, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. This album does stand alone somewhat in terms of the overall sound and feel in comparison to the band's output both before and after. Don't let that put you off, though, as this release really does fall into the slow burn/'grower' category.

The production is probably closest to Dogman. Very direct and bright with pounding down-tuned bass from Mr Pinnick. Jerry's drums sound nice and crisp and, as ever, Ty's guitar tone is exemplary. During the heavier sections, Ty's guitar sounds particularly nasty and he pulls off some very nice solos.

The overall feel here is one of slow groove, sometimes very heavy and at other times surprisingly laid back. It takes a good few listens to click but once there, I'm sure you'll enjoy this album just about as much as any other from the band's now sizeable back catalogue.

The song highlights for me are Julia (very original harmonically), She's Gone Away(complete with singalong chorus), When You're Scared (excellent 2 part guitar solo from Ty), Charlie Sheen(a Ty led song with nice clean guitar work), BitterSweet (another Ty led slow number) and the closing song Move Me.

Every time I come back to this album, I'm surprised at just how good it is. It hasn't dated one bit since its release. If you're an existing KX fan, there's no excuse for not owning this. Similarly, anyone who takes their rock/metal seriously should take the plunge.

Once again King's X , release a great album that probably very few people will hear. The album kicks off with feedback noises "fishbowlman", and climaxes with the near religious experience "Move Me", and indeed I was moved! Thanks to the band for this wonderful album that brightened up a dull time in my life. If you're new to the band I suggest "Gretchin Goes to Nebraska" as a good starting point, or "Faith Hope Love"

King's X are the biggest kept secret in modern rock music. They transcend traditional music categories, blending heavy rock with poppy melodic hooks, powerful lyrics and superb musicianship. Their music exudes quality and this album may be their best yet. If you have never heard them before I urge you to buy this album.

After the full-on heaviness of Tape Head this album is definitely more laid-back and psychedelic. There are lots of odd chord sequences, changes of key (sometimes several times in the same line!) and such-like, but there are also the hallmarks of classic King's X such as the vocal harmonies, memorable choruses, thumping bass and beautiful guitar playing. There are also big contrasts between the individual tracks; Julia has a really mellow vocal structure punctuated with a killer bass and guitar riff, She's Gone Away has a sing-along chorus, When You're Scared is downbeat, Charlie Sheen and Bitter Sweet are two of the most lightweight songs they've done for a while and Move Me (part two) is one long outro. It's also noticeable that Doug and Ty share the vocals much more evenly between them than in the past. Harder to get into than some of their earlier albums but still definitely worthwhile.
