While there is nothing sensational about this toy it is well made and does exactly what you want it to. It's durable and soft and provides a night light and plays soothing music. My only design complaint is that replacing the batteries (3xAAA) is awkward and needs a philips screwdriver.

I was given a slightly different version of this by a friend for my eldest child and she had a long period (at least 6 months) of taking it everywhere with her, including nursery. Therefore I decided to buy one for my second daughter and wanted to get a slightly different model (to avoid rows!).

It seems robust and it is easy to change the batteries. They appear to have a long life in the glow worm (not changed so far - in 4 months). I have put it through the wash inside a pillow case (without the battery/internals) with no ill effects. It wouldn't be suitable for tumble-drying, but then how many toys are?

My baby is entranced by the glowing face and gurgles happily when it is played to her - she can now push the tummy herself to make it play/light up. The tunes are soothing and pleasant and there are enough of them to prevent parental irritation (well at least for a while!).

My only slight reservation (and this wouldn't be an issue if I hadn't had the other model first) is that the tunes sound slightly quieter and more muted than in the other model. I prefer the original but that is personal preference and doesn't affect it's functionality or anything.

I have only given 4 stars for fun as, let's face it, it does one thing - react to having its tummy squeezed, rather than lots of other reactions. That said, my baby seems to think that's the most fun in the world at the moment and there is something charming about its simplicity.

I'm not sure you could particularly term it educational, but it does teach cause and effect and has some classical music tracks (short ones though they are).

I would also buy this for friends with a new baby, (and have done so) which I think is the best recommendation.
