Biography

Jacques Loussier was born in Angers, in northwestern France, October 26, 1934. He started playing piano at the age of ten and quickly demonstrated tremendous ability. When Loussier was just sixteen, he entered the Conservatoire Nationale de Musique in Paris where he studied with Professor Yves Nat whose youthful compositions were praised by Faure and Saint-Saëns, and whose prodigious ... Great music - enjoyable as background, but also if you have an ear for the detail. Bach was such a pioneer of his time, and touching his music needs professionalism and humility - Loussier has both. Buy and enjoy!

Jacques Loussier has been at it for the last thirty odd years. In this record he plays the famous tune of the Hamlet cigar comercial. It is breath taking and if you have a good hi-fi system you will want to listen to it over and over again. The quality of the recording will not let you down, Telarc is a superb record company. All in all a must in your collection.

This is Loussier at his best. If Bach had been born this century, this is how he would have composed his works. If you only buy one cd this year, get this one.

I purchased this CD as a means to obtaining a copy of the wonderful `Air on the G-string' arrangement, as used in the Hamlet cigar advert. However, despite one reviewer marvelling at the version on this album - which pretty much sold it to me, I was totally disappointed. This one is much more `jazzed-up' and bears little resemblance to the mellow version we all know.
Whilst not being a jazz advocate, I did endeavour to enjoy the rest of the album, which includes some talented playing and interesting variations on the original pieces, although in my opinion a few tracks are spoilt by over-drumming and too much cymbal work.
A jazz enthusiast may appreciate this album more than I, but if you are looking for the original track used in the Hamlet advert, avoid this.
