Fight epic battles with the Playmobil Lion Knight's Empire Castle

Playmobil Lion Knight
Start your mission to steal the gold treasure at the Lion Knight's Empire Castle, featuring high walls and many traps. view larger

The Playmobil Lion Knight's Empire Castle is a gigantic fort in which the King and Queen live, entertain, store their treasure, and fight battles. With high walls and lots of traps to contend with, this is the best place to be when your enemy attacks!

Features of your fortification

With 290 pieces, the attention to detail is fantastic. The Lion Knight's Empire Castle stands at 62 cm in height and measures a massive 72 cm in width. As you approach the castle, the large gates hide a wealth of traps. There's a portcullis just behind the gates that can be lowered to stop enemies entering, and if this doesn't stop them the rock fall trap will!

Once inside, there's a working lift in the top tower to transport gold and other goods, along with two lockable jail cells. With a trap door in the turret and a folding trap wall, your unwanted stay in the castle grounds won't last long. If you attack from the side, however, you may want to head for the breakthrough wall, which will make your task easier.

The Lion Knights are a big team of warriors, complete with a host of equipment to help them in battle. The Lion Knights Troop form the key part of the team and are always on hand to help out. The Firing Crossbow is great for returning enemy fire, while the Treasure Transport aims to get the gold away from the attackers and into safe hands. The Falcon Knights, however, also have a host of weapons including a Multiple Firing Catapult, Battering Ram, and Troop to cause problems for the Lion Knights.

Why pick Playmobil?

Since its launch in 1974, 2.6 billion Playmobil figures have been produced. The 7.5 cm tall Playmobil figure is the cornerstone of this creative toy system, and is an internationally award-winning product.

The imaginative role-play opportunities, integrated with a variety of historical and modern play themes, are fascinating to children and highly valued by parents and educational practitioners alike.

Playmobil's certified high quality is guaranteed by using company-owned European production sites in Germany, Malta, the Czech Republic, and Spain.

This Playmobil Castle is fantastic. We got it for my son who is 3 and he absolutely loves it. It is far and away his favourite toy and he spends a lot of time playing with it. It is well built and will last which is great these days. It is large and you need a fair bit of space to play with it as you need to access it from every side for the best play experience. I thoroughly recommend this product as it provides hours of fun and the children rarely seem to get bored of it.

Great castle. Huge box and huge castle. Takes some time to build. A lot of figures, a lot of features like secret passage, main gates opening, wall tearing down. If you have about a sq meter to have it at home, it's great!

I confess, I mainly bought this for my three and a half year old because I'd always wanted one myself, but she's loving it. There are plenty of detail items, and while she's a little small to work the lift as yet, there are still plenty of doors and stairs to move people around.
You do need to allow a good couple hours to construct the castle, and there are a couple of sections which I've not convinced to match up perfectly, but as always with Playmobil it's solidly constructed. We've actually found that keeping it apart in sections (towers, gatehouse, two sections of battlements) and spreading these round the floor gives her far more play access, and it's also easier to pack away onto a table at the end of the day.
Lots of accessories, including plenty of people.

Great fun toy for all concerned, including adults. Loads of detail for sparking the imagination, particularly like the gold coins in the treasure chest. Bought it for our son (4) and daughter (2 - but she's sensible enough not to eat the tiny parts) and both seem to be getting a lot out of it. I expect there to be lots of play value in years to come as imaginations grow. It does seem to come apart fairly easily, and might perhaps benefit from a little less ease in that department - but perhaps it's a toss up between walls coming apart easily(ish) or breaking. Took ages to put together, but we (M&D) quite enjoyed that bit too. All in all an excellent toy. Daddy wants a siege cannon for his birthday now.

Allow plenty of time to assemble this, easy to follow instructions and went together relatively easily.
Lots of little things so advisable to have a box to keep these in so they don't go missing.
Bought as a gift for our 4 year old but has been played with over Christmas by our 8 and 9 year old too and they all seem to love it.

This review comes almost a year late as we bought it for my two sons (5+3yrs) last xmas!! Good advice from previous reviews on build time - it takes a good 2 hours - as we found, myself and my wife trying to build it xmas morning under intense pressure from the kids!!! so give yourself time and space to put it all together.

Being playmobil it is very well designed and excellent quality throughout. It has lots of figures and parts - great for helping kids learn more about castles and medieval times plus lots of working features such as a working lift, portcullis, hidden trapdoors and boulder-drop mechanism. All of which are great, but my kids still spend most of their time moving as many figures and kit as they can up and down the lift!!

As previous highlighted - due to the plastic connectors for the walls and building - it does come apart quite easily - but its supposed to, you'd rather have it this way, with a 20 second rebuild time, than a heartbroken child due to a wall being irreparably broken.

Space-wise it is very big, we keep it for ease of transport on a wooden board, which must be at least 1m squared, so make sure you have room to store it - although your kids will be happy wherever it is!

All in all a fantastic purchase that we (oh, and the kids!!) are delighted with. We have other playmobil sets too and they must rank highly as being some of the best quality, best designed and best value for money toys that you can buy for your children - the hours of contented/imaginative play from your kids will be reimbursement enough. On the subject of value - most retailers are still charging between £145-155 for this castle - so £119 on amazon - is very competitive indeed.

Now Daddy...ahem....erm...my sons want to get some Falcon knights so he...ahem...they can play out some medieval sieges - can't wait!!
