I read the reviews before purchasing the calendar so I was aware that some assembly of the scenery was required. Knowing this already then this product was an excellent purchase. My older son had a lego calendar the year before and this playmobil one was just as good. My son really enjoyed it and was very excited each day to open the door, he did see the leaflet though so was aware of what was going to be behind each door. Perhaps advice for other parents keep this hidden away so that there is still the element of surprise (common sense that I was lacking!). Chose the dinosaur one as that is what my sons into but did notice there are lots of other options which you don't get quite so many of with the lego version. He has no other playmobil toys but this made no difference and is an excellent stand alone toy.

a briliant playmobil calander, my child loves opening it everyday and adding to the scene,this calander is much better than older playmobil calanders as it was all set up ready ,only had to put together the scenery

We spent a long time debating how to get away from last year's fights over little chocolate pieces and sweets from conventional advent calendars that we were given by friends and family. We asked anyone who was going to buy us a calendar to send a small donation towards one of these. The kids love it!
The only downside (as with all Playmobil) is that there tends to be some small pieces included that are easily lost.
