Bought this for my 5 year grandson. OK to put together but does come apart quite easily, I presume it is designed to do this, to avoid breakages. A nice size - not too big but decent enough to act out battles etc. Very pleased.

A great toy, takes a while to build up so if giving as a gift, may be better to set it up the night before for the younger ones. Older kids may enjoy putting it all together. Has kept my son occupied for hours. Many small pieces though so take care if there are younger siblings about. Just wish it wasn't so easily taken apart as this can be frustrating to constantly have to keep putting it back together again when it gets a little knock. Overall, very enjoyable to help make up knights and dragons stories...

Falls apart easily- frustrating for kids, infuriating for parents

We bought this for my son's birthday. It took a long time to put together initially, but the problem is that it doesn't stay together. The pieces of the castle fall apart, the walls fall down, the ledges fall off--the whole castle is just one gentle bump away from total collapse. The pieces that are supposed to fit in the canon don't, the saddles come off the horses, and it just feels really flimsy. I think this is probably the most annoying toy we have ever purchased and I am considering getting rid of it after less than two days. My kids get so frustrated with the walls falling down and the pieces coming off when they aren't supposed to--it is a source of frustration and not fun. I think I have put this together about ten times in the day and a half we have had it and my kids are not being rough with it. This is my first Playmobile purchase and will almost certainly be my last. I have heard great things about their products and, honestly, expected more. I can easily add this to our worst purchases list.

This is a beautifully designed toy with a functioning draw bridge, towers and plenty of tools, weapons, and interesting characters. The main complaint that was written by another purchaser is that the sections easily come apart, especially as kids move the castle around and pound on it. After snapping it back together a few times, I glued it together. Then an older brother got hold of it and it came apart again. I re-glued it with Loctite super blue, but I glued it into two parts, not one whole castle. That way my kid could open it and play inside very easily, or push the two halves together for a complete castle if he wanted. That gives it both flexibility and strength. It is so well designed that it is surprising that the company does not make connection pins that work. Dodn't they pre-test their stuff with playful four-year olds? They need to make the connections work, or include a tube of super glue. Otherwise, great!

I must admit I bought this castle before I read the other review here and after I read it I really was considering taking it back. I am glad I didn't for a multitude of reasons. My son is 4 nearly 5 and maybe not the most developed in the fine-motor department. It really may not be the best toy if you like to use toys for babysitters (which as a parent I'll admit happens from time to time.) I do think an older child would benefit from this more, but it helps teach that little motor skill stuff with all the swords & axes etc. There is also a tiny blacksmith's anvil and hay and water for the horse so it has an educational side that I like. The draw bridge is awesome to say the least, it does come apart some as 4 year olds tend to be needlesly rough with stuff, but if you are in the floor with them it's not a big deal. All the playmobil stuff is WELL built. And I almost passed out in the floor when I tipped it over and it didn't say made in China. Even if it is made in Germany and not the states, they tend to take pride in stuff like we do so it really shines through with the quality aspect. It's pricy but the customer service at playmobil is great about replacing stuff I hear and this stuff has a great high quality feel to it. So over all I guess I'll offer a contrast from the other person that wrote a review on this toy and give it a thumbs up. Sorry this review is so choppy we are playing with it right now and I wanted to give folks an alternative perspective.
