Product Description

Product Description

Berlin's audio casanovas cap a period of previously unprecedented activity with Playlist, a compilation that plunders the four-year back-catalogue of their well-respected nu jazz dealership. The collision of the classic with the contemporary is the key to both the success of Jazzanova's own material and the A&R stance of their Compost affiliated imprint. As such, this 15-track selection sees esteemed JCR associates Victor Davies, Koop and the Underwolves knocking boots with everything from the piano experimentalism of DJ Matsuoka, spaced oddities from Poland and Manfred Ludwig's long lost East German sextet. Although free from too much filler, the old hands still manage to put the younger steeds to shame, the highlight of Playlist taking the form of the horn-flecked tongue-twister "Wsop Pampasow", recorded by Jerzy Milian way back in 1975. --Kingsley Marshall

Excellent compilation straight from the Jazzanova dj playlist. Contains some sublime Eastern European Jazz from Manfred Ludwig and Jerzy Milian. These two amazing and incredibly hard to find tracks make this an essential purchase.

With great producers like Yukihiro Fukutomi and The Underwolves I knew I would be into it. I do love Jazzanova anyway ever since I heard their amazing album 'in-between' so I knew that I would appreciate this one. They have selected some down tempo and up tempo jazz classics. New and old it shows how clever Jazzanova are at weaving together the subject of Jazz into many beat based delights. Great vocals Great Beats Great Melodies. Cutting edge and at times old school.

Drop this at a dinner party and your guests will know you have great taste.

A Most Bodacious Album... 20 May 2003
By T. Snyder - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Jazzanova could make some guy in lederhosen yodeling into something smooth, jazzy, headnodding, and downright sweet.... they've got good taste in music as is evidenced on this album.
This album has enough electronica/downbeat/chill "neu-jazz" (or whatever you want to call it) for those types of ears, and enough straight jazz for the more traditional jazz types.
I'll reiterate another reviewer's recommendation - Victor Davies self-titled and remixed albums are both highly recommended - he's featured on the opener. Koop is also featured prominently with two songs - again highly recommended.
I'm particulary intrigued by some of the highly hard-to-find Eastern Germany /Polish/Czech vintage 70s jazz that's available on this release - it's definitely an area I would not have considered for jazz back then.
Overall, top notch stuff - 4 stars - (No 5 stars as it's not ground-breaking but it is solid). Recommended.

A Collection of the Finest Output from Jazzanova / Compost 22 Mar. 2004
By fetish_2000 - Published on
Format: Audio CD
More a compilation for the `Compost' label...that collates the finest artists on the label, and makes for a supreme Jazz-styled (think Jazz-tinged House) tracks with plenty to recommend, and for those that like various Crossover Jazz-Fusions. "Koop's - Summer Sun" has been wowing people with it's House-referencing Nu-jazz for some time now. Which sits well amongst the (mostly) upbeat nature of tracks, that are influenced but everything from intelligent breakbeat, to Trip-Hop, through the stylish Bossa Nova, by way of Jazz Rap, & even Electronica. And the fact that several tracks are mixed (or remixed) so tell potential customers that `Jazzanova' are looking squarely at the dancier side of Jazz for this highly recommended compilation.
A Great Companion CD to "In Between." 6 April 2003
By Elektro Jazz - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This CD expose you to more artists that are similar in style to Jazzanova. The label, Jazzanova-Compost has some brilliant artists on this compilation CD. If electro-jazz is your thing, I highly recommend this CD. I've recently purchased this CD and am enjoying it the more I listen to it. I use this compilation as a tool to give me an idea of what to purchase next. I've already grabbed Victor Davies CD because of it.

For those into nu-jazz electro jazz you will find this to be a treat. Standard Jazzanova for new listeners. Really classic stuff.
