A game of two halves! 24 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
Having been genuinely hooked on series 1 & 2 I anticipated 3 & 4 with much excitement.Work and other videoed programmes had somehow robbed me of the opportunity to watch them on terrestrial TV so after purchasing this tape I watched episodes back to back.Perhaps this overdose alters and redefines ones perceptions but series 3 ...well..it's like an overdose of turbo-charged caffeine.Too many skeletons in too many cupboards come back to haunt far too many people. There simply wasn't enough of the girls endeavours on the pitch or scenes producing light-relief as before. And I found the resolution of Shazza's character a real let down !-Marsha Thomason's series making character seemed to have lurched from cheeky Spice Girl of 1 & 2 to manic depressive malcontent in series 3.She doesn't even show up in Series 4 but its a big improvement on 3 and the introduction of Gaynor Faye and the lighter narrative displays a semblence of 1 & 2.Sadly James Nesbit and the 'Lesbian' couple(as they became known in the tabloid revues for series 1/2 )do not appear in 3 & 4 or rather Nesbitt does but blink and you'll miss him.All in all a very mixed bag.Series 4 is worthy of the canon but 3 does seem like Titus Andronicus after Twelfth Night!Hope series 5 arrives soon. Its still a unique series.
