bought a 4GB one of these for my 6 year old daughter and, at first, I thought it would be too dificult for her to understand, so I didn't give her the instructions, which were poor. Fiften minutes after opening it on Christmas morning, she had worked out how to use it herself with no assistance. Because she had no instructions, she just started exploring the menus herself and had managed to load music on and play it much to my amusement. After a bit of coaching from me, we had converted her CD collection to MP3 format and loaded it on to the player for her (it has to be converted to MP3 format first - we downloaded a program from the internet called FREERIP which was a dawdle to use).

Her best friend got an Apple iPod which is three or four times the price of this item and, as it was only meant to be a stocking filler, I couldn't justify spending so much. However, they can't tell them apart and she hasn't put it down since Christmas - no other gift has captured her imagination for so long. She has discovered music in a big way now. The sound quality for such a cheap item is breathtaking.

I would give it 5 stars for quality, 5 stars for ease of use and 5 stars for value (more if I could), however, the instructions are basic at best.

OK.... Where do I begin?????

Yes it looks like an iPod Nano but that is where the similarity stops. My friend bought this for her daughter & gave it to me to fill it with music. Painstakingly, I began to fill the item with music that I had spent the best part of 4 hours, tagging tracks. Not sure why I bothered because instead of the track title scrolling across the flimsy screen, we have what apear to be maths or graphical characters scrolling which makes you wonder if you are supposed to answer a question at the end of the track. Not sure if this is a fault but the instructions leave alot to be desired so I would assume it is part & parcel of the item's firmware. As for the instructions, we got 2 lots.... The 1st lot was just a diagram showing you which button to press to make this thing work. The 2nd lot telling you to ignore the 1st lot as the buttons now work the opposite way. I did wonder if the money my friend paid for this item was also an admission fee to MENSA because of the way the item now functions.

OK..... Rant over. I will say that for the money, it is not a bad mp3 player. If it satisfies your child that they have an iPod Nano, then good on the manufacturers for the design & price. The sound quality is also another plus but to me the only thing that sets this item out from other cheap mp3 players is the 30 pin docking point which will enable it to play in the docking stations that take the iPod Nano.
