Great Accessory 10 May 2002

This is an unmissable accesory for D&D, The CD you get in the back of th PHB is useless you cannot create Prestige classes and is very, very, very, very limited in my opinion. The price is good for the use you can get out of this and you have really got to pay a little money for the right to actually photocopy these so Value for money.

But not perfect...

I've read a couple of the reviews here saying "what's the need, you could just use x, y, z". I actually found when I first started playing that the sheet in the PH is useful and good for about the first ten levels. Once you start moving into prestige classes, multiclassing, etc, the PH sheet tends to become messy, littered with crap you don't need, and a bit annoying.

This is why these dedicated character sheets are good. As a Paladin, I don't need all the bunkum about spells on the back. As a wizard, I don't need to know how much lay on hands ability I (don't) have. These sheets specifically cater for that kind of thing, with all the character class specifics well-laid out on each sheet.

Of course there are flaws - I wouldn't say this was perfect, or necessarily good value for money by any means! One of the main flaws being that if you multiclass a Cleric, say, with a Wizard, then there will be areas of the specific character sheets that are lacking in each count. One assumes that that is why they included the generic sheet - but unfortunately, the generic sheet gives you pretty much what you'd get if you did indeed scan the PH sheet.

One thing I have found with these though, is that they're very good for photocopying lots and lots of. I usually found with the PH sheet that it was extremely difficult to photocopy without a nasty black smudge up the side where the spine of the book was. You don't get the same problem with these!

All in all, they're a good idea, and fairly useful - but probably not worth the money you pay for them. Maybe WoTC should include these within the PH itself as well as the lovely lovely CD?

Having purchased the charater sheets with the third edition D&D game I was somewhat confused. Why are they sold spereately, & at additional cost, when a blank sheet and a complete character program is Included with the Players handbook? If I had known that the CD was in the back of the book I probably would not have wasted my Money.
