Product Description

CD Description

The first reissue of this much sought after seminal album by leading 80's
indie band, The Bodines.
This 17 track CD, features the 10 tracks of the original 1987 album plus 7
bonus tracks.
This CD is the most definitive album available of the band's material.
This collection features versions of 5 of their singles including "Therese"
(album and extended version), "Heard It All" (single version), Skankin
Queens (album version), Slip Slide (album version) and God Bless (live
version).
The 7 bonus tracks are on CD for the first time. The bonus tracks are
Therese , Heard It All , b/side My Remarkable Mind , and four live tracks
taken from the 7" official live bootleg free with the 12" of Therese , Clear ,
God Bless , William Shatner and I Feel .
The CD booklet will include comprehensive sleeve notes and a full UK
discography featuring many of her original single sleeves.
Managed by the infamous manager Nathan McGough, The Bodines hailed
from Glossop near Manchester. The band signed to Creation Records and
released 3 singles God Bless , the follow up Therese that also featured on
the NME C86 cassette and Heard It All . The band then signed to
unfashionable Magnet Records and proceeded to release 3 singles and the
"Played" album, produced by Ian Broudie originally a member of influential
acts Big In Japan and Original Mirrors, and latterly The Lightning Seeds.
Though the band failed to deliver the desired chart hits that their label
hoped for, the band's sound is a great example of the guitar based indie
music of the middle 80's.

By Colin Mccartney TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
23 years ago The Bodines released this, their criminally overlooked debut and a minor classic. Overlooked, maybe because they committed the (then) sin of signing to a major label? That sort of thing was a big deal back then...

23 years on how does it sound? Like New Order Brotherhood (180 Gram LP - Vinyl Plus+) [VINYL] side 1, only with Ian McCulloch on vocals (the Bunnymen comparison is obvious I suppose given the use of Ian Broudie as producer). There's something else there though - the sleeve notes tentatively suggest Orange Juice - and I see where they're coming from. I could say that The Bodines should have signed to Factory Records as their sound fits perfectly, but just ask The Wake why that would have been a bad idea...

This long overdue re-issue is an adequate edition. Standard jewel case packaging and, perhaps disappointingly (and unlike some of the other re-releases on the Cherry Red label) there's no "where are they now"-type information in the booklet. The sound quality, though not exactly bad, is a little underwhelming. Bonus tracks-wise the essential "Heard It All", which was not featured on the original LP, is included along with some cool live tracks involving a bit of classic 80s-style audience interaction.

Whilst I've never actually owned a copy of "Played" until now (I used to borrow my brother's copy when he was out the house), 70% of these songs have been regular fixtures on the jukebox inside my head over the last 23 years.

23 years on, what are the kids in sunny Glossop doing now?

God Bless 31 July 2010
Format:Audio CD
At long last, the Holy Grail of LP's to CD finally arrives. I've had to make do with a scratchy vinyl copy for years and now can bask in the digital aura of one of C86's finest bands. And about time too!

Played indeed! 6 Oct 2010
Format:Audio CD
I have the original CD of this and it's one of my prized possessions, along with the signed vinyl version too!
Could have been one of the best early Manchester bands had they not been so overlooked.Very big in Canada too by all accounts.
They were excellent when they reformed in the early 90's amid the "Madchester" chaos.Indeed I saw them a few times (notably in the Boardwalk) and had a great night.Think Dave Haslam of Hacienda fame was their manager,I remember getting my copy of Decide from him in the Hac.
Well done on releasing this again,it's a corker of a record.William Shatner is a classic(he was Canadian wasn't he!?).
