PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

It would be impossible to review All-Stars properly without making a comparison to Super Smash Brothers Melee which dictated the formula for the zany brawler genre.

In much the same way as Nintendo's offering, All-Stars brings in a huge roster of big name PlayStation stars... and a few lesser known stars to boot. It's not as rich as Nintendo's offering which I think is in part due to the more realistic characters depicted in many PlayStation games (as opposed to the cartoony Nintendo legends).
Characters on offer range from Cole (inFamous), Big Daddy (Bioshock) & Kratos (God of War) through to PSN headliners like Fat Princess. Some lend themselves to the up close and personal (such as Raiden's swordplay) while others rely on traps (Sackboy). This gives a nice blend of styles such that there should be something for everyone. Unfortunately some characters are much more powerful than others; this is particularly evident with the special moves.

Special moves come in 3 levels. The first (which takes next to no time to charge) is an instant kill but in a very small area for a small amount of time. Some characters spin on the spot (Raiden), others charge (Kratos) while others still throw projectiles. Those that charge tend to be much easier to aim, and the area of effect varies such that multi kills can be had with some special attacks far more easily than others.
Level two is a longer duration over a slightly wider area. Some characters using projectiles get more control over aiming here which is very welcome. At level three the superpowers are dominating and will almost certainly result in a clean sweep for an able player (and they also result in a cut scene interrupt - it's cool the first ten times.

I absolutely love this game but I think Sony shot themselves in the foot trying to release this after call of duty/ Halo/ Wii U. Hopefully will get more people in after the Xmas rush.

Graphically and gameplay-wise this game is very solid and has a lot of depth, I'm really enjoying it!

this is an okay game I would recommend it if it was in a discount bin

the game play is good and is very different to smash brothers instead of knocking people off the stage you have to build up your SP meter to release your super move and SP ATTACKS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT KILL PEOPLE. the only way to gain points is to kill the other players by using them but this works and I like it a lot if this was based off game play I'd give it 4/5 but there are other things that brought this down

the characters are really disappointing there are only around 21 (I think) and I think sony have really missed out a huge opportunity with this smash bro.s has I think around 36 they seriously missed out a lot of characters crash bandicoot, cortex, spyro, a few more characters from tekken, the soldiers from haze, tag from modnation racers, the list goes on. But they made a huge mistake with character balancing. Well they are all balance very well except for one person KRATOS if someone uses him then it just ruins the whole game.

once again sony also missed a whole opportunity with this by missing out on much more stages than they could have included there are 12 actual stages and 8 practice stages I think. on the wii there are much much more and that is a less powerful console they could have put in much much more for example a gran turismo stage where people fight on the track while trying to avoid cars and then the could have been a earth quake which then turns thins into motorstorm 3. Its things like this that really make me dislike this game

gameplay is good but there are too few characters and stages to make this an amazing game only get this if its in a discount bin

Playstation All Stars : Battle Royale, a brief review.

review, the pure concept of mashing different universes of characters together has been done before, but this game and SuperBot Entertainment & Co who developed this game have done an amazing job. The roster is made up of 20 (as of me writing this review, more DLC characters are planed for early 2013) characters, this consists of mostly of playstation exclusive characters and a few multiplatform ones.Modes are arcade, each characters watered down and bad story mode effectively. You can do challenges for characters as well to try and improve and get used to your favourite character. Online is called 'Tournament' for up to four players and is mostly fun. Also over 10 great arenas to play, each unique and diverse in there own ways. This has up to four player fights in them, this game has a wacky, vivid and zaney sense about it with the mesh of different characters and arenas and brawling style thats very much insane and hard to keep track of fighting style sometimes, but while its a draw back, its certainly one of its big positives as to what makes it so fun to pick up and play.

Overall I would give it a 7.5 out of 10

As a complete and absolute NOOB with fighting games, i was a bit worried I would buy this and end up disliking it like most other fighting games I have tried over the years.

But I had always wanted to play Super Smash Bro's, but was put off by the fact it is on Wii.

Now PS3 has its own version and it is a lot of fun and very accessible for noobs and experts a like. A lot of online reviews have made out that the control mechanism is overly complicated, but I fail to see why? I have had no issues playing both offline and online with this game and the controls are very tight, easy to use accurate.

- The visuals are amazing on both Vita and PS3.
- The locations you fight in are a live, beautiful, well animated, varied, layered and full of PS3 throw-backs.
- As mentioned above, the controls seem easy to me - unsure of why expert reviewers have said otherwise?
- The man story can be completed for each character in little under 15 minutes each making replay very nice.
- The difficulty levels seem spot on to me with easy being easy and hardest given a challenge, but nothing mind-numbing.
- The selection of characters is very impressive with each one playing very differently and feeling different.
- You can customise your characters skin, intro and outro videos and sound effects.
- You can customise your profile.
- There is a tone to unlock in regards to skins, icons and backgrounds, etc etc.
- Your characters all level up which give a nice sense of progression.
- The online gaming was stable and fun (although the vita version takes longer to get started).

- YOU GET THE PS3 AND VITA version for the price of ONE!!
- Your character progress on the PS3 is translated to your VITA also...
