Book Description

26 July 2010
Take a simple shape, let your imagination go wild, and see what happens... Over 40 top names – including Jo Brand, Quentin Blake, Emma Thompson, Sir Peter Blake, Axel Scheffler, Alain de Botton, Ian McEwan, Jacqueline Wilson, Andrew Motion and Jeremy Irons – have played the Shape Game for charity. And they’ve left behind brand new shapes for the reader to play along too! This simple drawing game, devised by the Children’s Laureate, Anthony Browne, is the perfect way to encourage a child’s creativity. In partnership with Booktrust and Waterstone’s, all profits are going to The Rainbow Trust charity, which provides vital support to families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Browne book! 15 May 2009
By LH
Format:Paperback
This is another brilliant Anthony Browne book. It is about a family's trip to an art gallery. At first they didn't want to go but in the end they really liked it. This book also tells you about a game that you can play when you are bored - the shape game! This book is beautifully illustrated and I would recommend it for both adults and children.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea, poorly executed 14 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was disappointed with this. It's a collection of drawings from celebrities and illustrators to raise money for the Rainbow Trust Childrens Charity, and for that it's applaudable. However I found that some of the pictures "cheated" and sometimes did not interpret the shape they were given, which then makes it pointless as you may well just have chosen or accepted any drawing by the person. I also think the production of the book is lacking. Glossy paper would have enhanced the finished product. The game however is an interesting one and could be used in a variety of situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb teaching tool! 30 April 2011
By Mrs T
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my Year 3 class as a starter for our 'Shape Poetry' unit. It is a simply awesome book- inspiring both adults and children who have enjoyed reading it. We have returned to it several times throughout the topic and even after the shapes and poetry have been completed the class still love looking at the book. I would recommend this not only for educational purposes but as inspiration for any family too.
