This is another brilliant Anthony Browne book. It is about a family's trip to an art gallery. At first they didn't want to go but in the end they really liked it. This book also tells you about a game that you can play when you are bored - the shape game! This book is beautifully illustrated and I would recommend it for both adults and children.

I bought this book for my Year 3 class as a starter for our 'Shape Poetry' unit. It is a simply awesome book- inspiring both adults and children who have enjoyed reading it. We have returned to it several times throughout the topic and even after the shapes and poetry have been completed the class still love looking at the book. I would recommend this not only for educational purposes but as inspiration for any family too.

I put off buying this book for ages. For a start, I thought it was one of those tiny kiddie's book but it isn't. It's a large paperback, which shows the paintings to good effect, particularly their detail. The author then goes on to explain the meanings of some of them: he basically brings Art alive and his passion is catching.
As an introduction to Art and paintings it is a wonderful start for children, but adults will appreciate the message too... well I did.. but I take pleasure in small things.
It's a delightful book and if you are getting into the idea of visiting Art Galleries or perhaps don't understand what the fuss is all about because you didn't have that type of privileged upbringing, I would highly recommend this book as a good start.

We used some images and parts of the story for role play and to write about art. Good illustrations inside.
