Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
Obscure II is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Obscure. Two years ago, at Leafmore High, a group of young teenagers were trapped inside their school and hunted by monsters that had been released by the maniac headmaster. Some of them survived that terrible night, while others perished. Now, the survivors have picked up their lives and joined college. But all is not right on Fallcreek University; strange black flowers have suddenly sprung up everywhere on the campus. While experimenting with these flowers in class, a dangerous substance is discovered that induces strange but vivid dreams. But a handful of students find out that there is more to the flowers than anyone could have expected; when the seeds finally germinate, a bad trip suddenly turns into a horrible reality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Survival Horror's greatest bits..., 28 Oct 2007
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Obscure II works suprisingly well for a game that unashamedly borrows various styles, gameplay mechanics and plot devices from just about every successful survival horror game of the last 10 years.

As someone who rather misses the older style ammo conserving / puzzle solving heyday of games such as Resident Evil 2 and the first Silent Hill this pushed enough nostalgaic buttons to keep me happily immersed for a couple of days and nights. Sure the overall plot is cliched and at times incoherent but the process of working your way through it is almost always entertaining. There's some nice quiet periods in the game which help to create a creepy atmosphere and the American teens are not too grating, particularly when the story starts to take a darker turn.

With survival horor games being rather thin on the ground at the moment I would definitely recommend this. Having enjoyed the original Obscure I think this is actually better and would hope that it does well enough to ensure a third instalment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obscure? Too Right!, 13 Sep 2007
By Lydia (England) - See all my reviews
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I love horror games and try to play every single one that comes out. I remember buying the first Obscure because it seemed like a bit of fun and was a two-player. I bought the second one because of the same reasons. However this sequel is far darker than the first. To put it simply: this game confused me! It begins like a teen-horror, changes to a survivial horror then to serial killer game then back to a teen horror! The controls and character abilities were a lot better in this game, but it was very annoying that the surviving characters of the first one were nothing like the originals. Also, this game was a bit over-the-top and it seemed like the producers just threw together pieces of Silent Hill, Resident Evil and the film The Faculty!! Basically, it was Obscure!
Another reason why I got the first one was because it was only a 12 and so I could play it with my younger cousin. However, this one is a 16 and it is quite explicit in places. I think the violence personally is like an 18 certificate but I think the video game certifiers gave it a 16 because of the silly plot (the plot isn't exactly for an adult audience - its teenage and stereotypes teenagers quite a lot). Therefore I would not recommend people buying this for a younger audience like the first one.
I gave it a 3 because I liked the locations, the character controls, the weapons and the music was excellent. But overall I am disappointed because of the changes in the remaining characters and the unbelievable plot.

4.0 out of 5 stars More than you think, 26 Nov 2007
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I wonder how many people have played this game to what they think the final boss fight is, watched the credits, and then sold the game???? Big mistake, Huge Mistake. If you wait until the end credits finish, you will find that there is even more game to play (quite a bit more) and a bigger battle to come. Hope I have saved someone getting rid of the game before 100% completion.
