Learning while having fun making things, 15 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Play, Laugh & Learn, Celebrate the Seasons (Spiral-bound)
My 6yr old home educated son and I love this book. It can easily be stood up so that we can follow activity ideas with our hands free. It follows each season, and teaches us about lots of different celebrations throughout the world. For example we have recently made a chinese dragon to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We did leaf activities in the Autumn and made snow flakes at the beginning of Winter. I find it invaluable to get ideas from. It gives the child a good all round understanding of the seasons, the world and the people in it.They are learning without even knowing it as they are having so much fun. Well recommended.

Forgotten How To Imagine?, 20 Nov 2005
This review is from: Play, Laugh & Learn, Celebrate the Seasons (Spiral-bound)
Play, Laugh and Learn Celebrate The Seasons by Lynn Huggins-Cooper is a must have and beautifully presented book for everyone. My children and I have gone through hours together with this book.
Adults often forget over the years what it means to actually play. This book stimulated my imagination as much as my children's who came up with masses of wonderfully imaginative and creative things to do whilst reading through this.
Exploring nature's seasons seems obvious really. Doesn't it? But have you ever actually taken a step back and looked at the colours, the special features unique to each one? Have you ever stopped and shared your thoughts on each season as it arrives and develops with your child?
This book is presented in an easy to understand format with bright attractive pictures. No technical knowledge required. Using everyday materials and easy to obtain craft items, you are able to see and feel the excitement as your child develops their own imagination and intuition about the world around them.
Each craft is laid out in such a way that it stimulates the mind to imagine lots more ideas to personalise each one into something magical, unique and special which will be treasured.
Most of all though, for me, this book is exciting. I have gone through masses of books over the years being a mother of five with my children's age ranges from 16 down to 4. When choosing craft or ideas books for my children in the past, many have ended up just on the shelf sitting there with perhaps a few of the things suggested in the book made with enthusiasm and then never looked at or mentioned again.
This book, since entering my house some three weeks ago has never been on the shelf. It has been in the center of the room and looked at each time one of the children are at a loose end as the television or the computer is not as interesting. That comment came from my five year old daughter who would much rather be making the things in this book and collecting things from outside the house like leaves to enjoy as it is autumn at the moment, than sitting with her favourite films. Which in my opinion, is incredible and quite an achievement.
I feel proud to be writing this review and would highly recommend this for everyone for children of all ages. The fresh and unique approach by the author will grab you from the very first time you open this book.
So if you are tired of all those craft books out there that do not live up to the expectations of the cover, take a look at this one. I am confident that like me, you will not be disappointed.

Terrific Crafts For Kids, 19 Jan 2004
This review is from: Play, Laugh & Learn, Celebrate the Seasons (Spiral-bound)
This is one of the best crafts books for youngsters I have ever come across. It contains interesting and creative ideas for three to ten year olds which would make TV boring by comparison! Not only is the finished craft something that's eminently displayable and something a child can be proud of, but the creative process educates about design, colour, nature, the environment, and other cultures. It's well worth looking at either for your own family, or as a gift for someone else's!
