Book Description

No connections. Play it safe. These were the rules Ivey lived her life by.

Until she hit Mustang, Colorado, a perfectly imperfect town where the citizens were welcoming and one of them included the tall, beautiful, macho man rancher cowboy, Grayson Cody.

On the run for a decade, Ivey knew she was supposed to play it safe. But she was tired of being on the run. She wanted a normal. She wanted real. She wanted a home.

And she wanted Grayson Cody.

And Grayson Cody wanted Ivey.

No one who looked at them couldn’t see they belonged together. There was one man in this world for Ivey and one woman in this world for Grayson Cody.

So they fell in love.

But just as quickly as they fell together, they were betrayed and torn apart. Separated for years, Ivey was certain her life would not include her rancher cowboy. Until the town of Mustang reached out to her when Gray was in trouble. Even though she thought he broke her heart, she charged in to help. Then Gray and Ivey discovered they were betrayed and, not only that, Gray had an enemy who would stop at nothing to defeat him.

More About the Author

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

All Kristen has ever wanted to do was write (well, and be the Queen of the World, but you gotta start small). Somehow, she got into the charity biz and found another calling. She worked for the Rocky Mountain MS Center and the Colorado Neurological Institute before moving to England. Now she does both, working for The Pituitary Foundation in Bristol, UK by day, sitting at her computer typing out stories by night.

Kristen now lives in England and got there by way of Denver, where she lived for twelve years, but she grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Her Mom moved her and her brother and sister in with their grandparents when Kristen was six. Her grandparents had a daughter much younger than her Mom so they all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. Kristen grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers and REO Speedwagon (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best 31 Mar. 2013
By In My Honest Opinion TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a fan of Kristen Ashley so it pains me to say that out of all her books I have read, this book is up there with 'Knight' as one of my least favourite.

Without giving away spoilers, all I can say is it started off OK. I loved Cody and Ivey but when KA took the story in a different direction, I thought it was very unrealistic. Of course we were just told what had happened so we weren't shown how Ivey came to make that decision, which seemed totally out of character for her and I wondered why KA came up with that particular storyline.

For the first time in a KA book I was actually getting a bit bored. Cody is great, but he is nowhere near as alpha male as most of her other heroes. There were a lot of things in this book that reminded me of her other books and for me the story started to become predictable and I could see where it was all heading.

I had decided a while ago not to read this book after reading some negative reviews on .com but during a reading lull I thought I would give it a go as with other KA books I have enjoyed the ones I thought wouldn't be as good but with this one, I should have gone with my initial instinct not to read it! However, I still love KA and can't wait to read her new book that is out next week!

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic 14 Jun. 2013

I thoroughly enjoy they way the characters mingle in to other books and I particularly enjoy the way in which her writing draws you in to the story. It was only a few weeks ago that I stumbled across Kristen Ashley books and have read the majority of them already!! I become so engrossed with the story and characters that I have trouble putting the book down. I wait with bated breathe for the next installments to all of the Kristen Ashleys series!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story to get your teeth into. 31 Dec. 2012
By ICW2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One of the things I really liked about this book was its length - so many romance books just seem to jump straight to the conclusion as if to tick the boxes (happy couple? tick! marriage? tick! babies? tick!, but this book really allowed you to get to know the characters and that made everything more real for me as a reader. As for the characters - I loved Gray and I also loved Ivey, I felt like Kristen Ashley really got the balance of vulnerability and strength/fire right in Ivey, and it made for a heroine who we really feel for and get invested in. Overall, definitely a recommended read that holds your attention and gives good value for money as it's longer than your average romance novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars slow to start, different, but excellent, again! 13 May 2013

I loved this book SO much, but I have to say I did give up on it within a few pages only to return a few days later. Once I figured Ivey and her brothers 'game' I was captivated... and in true KA Style I wasn't disappointed.
I could smell the horses, see that gorgeous barn, I loved Cody simply because he's one of the more 'normal' of the KA leading men. While he's alpha male, he's alpha in a very subtle way.
This book is gentle, not nearly as 'fast track' as other KA books.. it did take a few interesting turns here and there, but I adored it for it.
AND another lovely epilogue... sniff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5 star! 6 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story starts out with Ivey being new to town, she arrives with her brother. They are pool hustlers and something happens where Ivey meets Gray who helps her out in her hour of need.
The spark between them ignites and they hit it off.
At 40% of the book I knew something had to happen. I've read too many of KA's books to know that the story wouldn't go without any drama. Whoosh at 50% the twist came. Omg, I was not expecting that. I was gutted, I couldn't believe it.
Anyway, the story unfolds twist after twist. Superb writing as usual and had me captivated from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!! 25 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Giving this book a go took me a while because I was so engrossed in several of the author's series. Now I really hope Kristen Ashley will give us more, soon. One of the strongest romance stories I've read this year, and it's interesting that it comes with less of the usual amount of Ashley-type action, crime, female attitude, or magic. The heroine Ivy is absolutely wonderful without being as feisty and confused (thus entertaining in a certain way) as most of Ashely's heroines. This book demonstrates the magic of Ashley's story-telling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story 17 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It took longer than usual to get into this, I think because Ivey was so closed off at the start and hard to like, but that didn't last long. As usual Gray, the male hero is an alpha cowboy and you don't get better than that for me.
Their story had lots of ups and downs and I was hooked.
Lovely, feel-good story with a proper ending. Recommended for romantics , alpha lovers and cowboy fans.
