Review

""Play Football the NFL Way" is the finest instructional book I have ever read. It examines, explains, and illustrates the important fundamental and skills so vital in playing the game. I found it to be concise and complete. It is ideally suited for the young aspiring athlete, to the developing high school or college player, and yes, even the top professional player. For coaches at all levels of competition, this is an excellent handbook that can be used as a reference or serve as the basic source of their work."--Bill Walsh, NBC Sports and former head coach, San Francisco 49ers.
"The most complete book of drills and techniques I ever have read. "Play Football the NFL Way" is must reading for every coach, no matter where he coaches for the level of competition." --LaVell Edwards, head coach, BYU, and past president American Football Coaches Association
"Tom Bass has taken his years of experience and organized them into an easy-to-read coaching manual that covers every phase of the game." --R.C. Slocum, head coach, Texas A&M University
"One of the most thorough, informative, and complete football books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Tom Bass has a great gift as a teacher and fundamentalist. His position-by-position drills and 'Winning Points' comments are invaluable for any coach at any level."
--John B. Featherstone, head coach, El Camino College
"Tom Bass is one of the great minds of the game of football...I have read his book and heartily endorse it as a teaching tool for coaches and football classes." --Jim Sweeney, head coach, Fresno State University
""Play Football the NFL Way "is without a doubt the most complete detailed, and descriptive book on football drills and techniques that I have read. A masterpiece for coaches--Bass knows football." --Spike Dykes, head coach, Texas Tech University
"Whether you play pro football, aspire to play pro football, watch pro football on television, or broadcast pro foot

This is possibly the finest instructional manual ever for learning how to play every position in an American Football team. The 'Winning Points' summaries in the book are a great sum up of all of the relevant info in the book. The book contains lots of real-life pictures to help understand the steps to throwing an excellent pass, a hard-hitting tackle, or a fantastic block. This book is ideal for anyone- students of the game, coaches at all levels, players, and even top NFL players themselves. You would expect this book to be very helpful because it is an official NFL manual.

A book for coaches who believe in technique 9 Nov 2000
By B. Zall - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book covers a lot of territory in a hurry, but is packed with information. The book is divided into sections (offense, defense, etc.), and within each section, covers each position. Unlike Jack Reed or other authors, Bass is teaching technique, not theory or strategy. For example, learn eight ways to block, with a few drills to reinforce each method. I give this book to other coaches as presents.

A GREAT PRESENTATION ON THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF FOOTBALL. 20 Sep 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
IF YOU ARE A COACH LOOKING FOR NEW DRILLS FOR YOUR PLAYERS, OR A PARENT WHO IS TRYING TO SHARPEN YOUR KIDS SKILLS, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. IT IS FULL OF DIAGRAMS AND DRILLS FOR EACH AREA OF THE TEAM. ESPECIALLY USEFUL ARE THE FOOTWORK DIAGRAMS WHICH ARE EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND TO TEACH. ALSO HELPFUL ARE THE COACHING POINTS THAT ARE GIVEN FOR SELECTED DRILLS. IN CLOSING, THE BOOK DOES NOT GO INTO MUCH DETAIL IN REGARDS TO STRATEGY, BUT IF THE DRILLS ARE FOLLOWED, YOU WILL HAVE TECHNICALLY PROFICIENT PLAYERS WHICH WILL SUIT ANY GAME PLAN YOU CHOOSE.

The Best Technique Coaching Book There Is 5 Jan 2005
By kenu-raido - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Forget what the other reviewer said about not good for youth football. That's horse-hooey. Granted some of what is discussed is not going to work for youth, but much of it will. I am a youth coach. I own and am reading 50 plus books on coaching football. This is the best nuts-and-bolts book there is. Buy it and use it. Coach Bass does consider youth in his book. Just read the tackling instructions where he discusses fear of tackling in youth players and how to best overcome it. The book is well organized around positions and has tons of pictures of the techniques in action. The book has many times more pictures than any other book, save perhaps George Allens' book "Inside Football" might be a close second -- though much older.
