This book is the biz 27 Oct 2004
Format:Spiral-bound
I just have to say Terry Burrows is a genius. This is just a wonderful informative book on how to play the Electric guitar. I always wanted to play an axe and jumped straight in learning riffs and reading tabs and basically except for a couple of party pieces I was going nowhere and knew very little about the guitar. But this book has changed everything for me. The CD is great also. After the first week you are playing a little two chord riff to the CD which has a whole band sound, Bass drums etc. This is a great book for learning electric guitar. I am 41 now and always wanted to learn to play, being a want to be rocker my whole life and now because of this book I am building a solid foundation and who knows someday I might just get there.

i'd have to say that this book changed my guitar playing instantly. i started off using tabs and was getting on fine but wasn't going anywhere. before buying this book i knew no chords and by week 3 i now know 8 so to sum up this book in one word

Blinding

a must buy for any beginner

If you've just bought a guitar, and know nothing about playing, this is a great place to start. Not only does it teach you the techniques, but also teaches the theory. What is also good is the pacing, starting off with simple chords and building to soloing techniques such as bends, hammer-ons etc.

After a couple of months, I now know lots about the guitar I did't previously. So why 4 stars? Well the book rather ambitiously states that you should be good enough to play in a band after 3 months. Well, after 3 months I have progressed, but I don't think I be joining any band soon. Maybe if you where a music prodigy like Mozart......

I would really recommend the books by Troy Stetina as an excellent followup to further extend your playing.
