I bought this book for the purposes of preparing for an audition which requested an excerpt from a classical source. I was vaguely familiar with 'Casina' and the only source from which I was able to access the text was a little too archaic and academic that the spirit of the play was lost. This, in addition to a bizarre and frustrating tendency to censor and deny full translation of the play (when the very spirit of the play is meant to be rude and racy), made it unusable and joyless.
Thankfully, this translation is accessible and refreshing, carrying the spirit of the play without losing too much of Plautus's distinctive literary style. It is neither purely academic nor theatrical in its presentation, but it is certainly a great source to explore Plautus's work.
