Product Description

The Plantronics M55 Bluetooth headset features DeepSleep mode, which can extend the standard 16 days standby time up to 5 months. Noise and wind reduction means that your voice is heard on calls, not disruptive background noises. You can listen to music, Internet radio, or GPS, and even charge while travelling with the discreet car charger. Whispered alerts keep you informed about battery level, Bluetooth connection, and more. Forget buttons, use your voice to take calls - just say "answer". And no matter how long the call takes, the super soft ear tip will keep you comfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK for the money 21 Aug 2014

Volume button is fiddly while wearing it. Volume is not loud enough in my opinion. You do need to remember to increase the volume on your phone too but even when both are on Max it is fairly quiet for me. I wonder if this means that it could vary from phone to phone, as might any other issues... Mine is a Nokia 925 - I don't like iPhones.
I don't think this is designed for (my) large ears and I would describe comfort as just OK although it is very light.
Bluetooth reception seems OK. People at the other end say I sound echoey.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like Plantronic headsets generally 27 July 2014
Product Packaging:Frustration-Free Packaging|Verified Purchase
I purchased the M55 to replace a M50 that I had before which had got damaged. I like Plantronic headsets generally, but I do find - probably because I'm getting on now (54) they are not quite loud enough. I end up pushing it into my ear tightly when on the phone, which sort of defeats the object of having a 'hands-free' device. I found the M50 better than my new M55 because of a rubber, shaped piece that turns into the ear, improving the volume and making it more comfortable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed 27 Aug 2014

Whilst the M55 has some great features, the earloop just isn't robust enough. My partner is on his 2nd replacement earloop in less than a year!! He has also complained that at times the earpiece does not pick up his calls unless he turns it on and off a again. His last earpiece lasted him 2 years hassle free so might have to revert back to that model.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best at this Price 10 July 2014

I don't think you'll find a better more feature packed headset for this price. I've been using a number of these devices (all differing brands and prices) for years. I bought this one primarily for two purposes, (1) to use with a phone for long business / conference calls (2) to listen wireless to my ipod / ipad while commuting. It performs faultlessly with both. I'd recommend putting this on your shortlist, or just 'buy-it'. At just over £20 I don't think there is anything to beat it on price / performance.

Good:
-Great design and good fit, surprisingly small and compact, but not in a way that makes it fiddly to use.
-Love the earbud design, where soft plastic / gel holds the device in your ear, rather than an earloop. An earloop is provided if you don't like buds in your ear.
-Audible voice announcements, announcing remaining battery, volume, redial, etc. I like this function. Only the user hears this - not the caller - but it's very useful to know what the device is doing and if it has recognized your commands.
-USB charging. It charges via a standard mini usb-standard usb cable, so it can be charged via standard USB port. Since these mini USB's are becoming the standard on phones etc, just about any cable / charge combination will charge it. Red light when charging, goes out when charged. Takes 40-60 mins to charge.
-It has a solid on/off switch. This is great for all kinds of reasons. When switched on the voice prompt will announce battery remaining, then move on to announce which phones are connected - great feature. This announcement function can be switched off. It was my intention to do that, but when I started using the device it's quickly become one of the best features. It's a real US female voice - or sounds very real !!

Sound wise it's fine. But I agree with the reviewer whose wife thought it was uncomfortable. I too found it uncomfortable, unlike previous headsets; the earpiece doesn't sit it the ear that well. This perhaps due to the fact that plastic loop that fits behind the ear is not that rigid and therefore the headset feels loose.
