I was eagerly awaiting the publication of this book as the previous books in the series by DK were excellent, and plants are what I love. This book was however a bit of a disappointment. The book is much thiner than the Animal book. There is a serious lack of books covering the diversity of the plant kingdom, and I had hoped this book would fill the hole. The editor has however decided to give the book a very conservation for gardeners slant and has failed to cover many topics that make plants so exciting. The book is also divided by the habits of plants (trees, herbacious plants etc) and not by family, which would be much more useful. The plants chosen in this book seem to be ones that are endangered and not necesarely the most intriguing.
This book seems to be aimed at garders and conservationists and not at people interested in a more scientific approach to the diversity of plants

A beautifully produced book with lots of information and great photos of the plants that are covered. If anyone happens to know if an update of the 2004 edition is going to be published please would they let me know. Another recently published book worth using alongside DK Plant is RHS Latin for Gardeners by Lorraine Harrison (go to the webpage [...]. A second book worth using with DK Plant is the Chambers Dictionary (go to the webpage[...]which will give a lot of help with the Genus names of plants.

Although it has a slight coffee table book appearance, this is a beautifully produced book. It will be of some help in an Ecology module for RHS exam. I was very glad to buy second hand.
