Product Description

Product Description

When planning a new office, designers and their clients are faced with many challenges. They have to think not only about practical issues such as spatial needs, proximity relations, IT infrastructure and furniture, but also more strategic questions such as occupancy costs, effectiveness of the working environment, and environmental impact. This vast array of issues often confront people who have never had to deal with them before. Practical Office Design is a clear, accessible book written to help solve these problems, looking at each of them in turn. It explains what questions should be asked and shows the alternative solutions on offer and their advantages and disadvantages. It is ideally suited for both office designers and their clients to help them reach the best, most suitable office design while ensuring that they have considered all of the issues that need to be addressed.

Excellent Guide 3 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
This guide gives a excellent overview and system for planning offices and thinking about all the required workplace settings to support 'flexible' and 'new ways of working'. I like that the premise of the book is that these will support the strategic aims of a business and are not design for designs sake. There are lot's (virtually every other page) of very good (and up to date as of 2011) photographs of office settings and some floor plans and diagrams. To be more complete I would have liked to have seen more diagrams with dimensional information; you could get some of this from the Metric Handbook, Architects Pocket Book or similar though. Recommended for anyone interested in office space planning and quite reasonably priced compared to some others. I have been quite frustrated by some of the other books on this subject as they all seem a bit out of date - this book definitely reflects leading thinking on workplace design.

I was looking for a reference for my new small office and while this book covered a lot of things that weren't relevant for me, the fundimentals it addressed were very helpful.

I panicked when my boss charged me with redesigning our whole office. I had no idea where to start or where to turn for help. This book helped me frame the project and gave me some really great examples. Lots of pictures are a great asset to this book. Worth every penny.
great primer / very visual 6 May 2012

If you're not an architect or a classically trained interior designer this is a great walk through about how to approach space design and what kind of uses to consider. If you do have to work with an Architect or Designer on your project this will help you get a quick handle on trade vernacular etc...
