This is designed to be put on a table edge at 90 degrees, so it won't work on a curved surface. Not a problem for me, but worth mentioning.
The dip in it for picks is very, very handy, its bigger than it looks in the picture, and it holds a lot - I typically have a dozen in it at any time and it's deep enough. With your surface, you essentially need your surface to be at the right height to support the neck. While the width of the holder is wide enough for virtually any neck for any guitar, your chosen surface obviously needs to be at the right height to support it. The closer to the headstock the better in my opinion - otherwise the guitar can swivel a bit. I have it at mid-neck height (roughly 7th fret) and this is fine.
Here is why it gets three stars: as while it does have some natural grip being texturised rubber on the bottom, it has nothing to attach it to your surface. I initially kept putting my guitar down on it not carefully . . . if I knocked one of the grip's edges (they protrude off the edge of the surface by an inch or two) it acts as a lever and tips up the circular pick rest! And one a couple of occasions I sent plectrums flying everywhere.
Now, I wasn't slamming it down or anything, it just doesn't need much force on these protruding little nubs to kind of act as a lever and tip - I will admit I am less patient and careful than some but it's not like I was slamming it down; you need to watch to make sure you're putting it right into the rest and you don't knock one of the ends to send your plectrums flying :) Similiar criticism is that it can still slide horizontally along your surface, so it can move a bit that way too, but to be fair that's not going to be a big problem unless you accidentally knock it.
Easy enough to solve for me - I put a couple of small blobs of blu-tack on the bottom of the circular area's underneath far edges, and that of course solved it completely. But I don't think I should have had to take that step. You might not have this problem if you're willing to carefully put your guitar in place each time to make sure you don't nudge one of the points. I wasn't; if you are, give it an extra star, but make sure you mean it :)
So: Stand your guitar up, and if you have a surface with a 90 degree edge that rubber will grip to somewhere at neck height, you'll be with this - just bear in mind you might want fix it to the surface with a little blu tack or something.
