I reserved this book months ago and was really looking forward to it as I love the first book a lot. But I was really let down by this one. I was looking for a book with extensive cupcake ideas such as the ones on the first book and the front cover of this book (probably the only one I really like). But what I got was a lot of overworked cupcake designs that are very impratical for a cake maker and most unuseful for home baker!
Most of them would never be ordered by anyone, or no one would ever order them and be prepared to pay for it, it is very labour intensive and you would charge to the roof for it, this is more for artistic flair rather than saleability. It's almost like they run out of ideas and had to make cupcakes there and then to meet the deadline. I also did not like that the book is more drawings than actual photos of the cupcake process. That was annoying.
Most designs are very impractical. There were a few that gives me inspiration but the rest are a let down. I dont hate it, I just dont like it. Its good to look at but thats all it is. I'm sooo sad.

This is more of an art book than a useful, inspirational cupcake decorating book which I was hoping for. Instead of photos, the instructions are drawn!! Extremely off putting and a complete cop out!! The most feesible design is on the front cover..the majority of designs are far too faffy and complex to ever attempt...afterall we are talking about cupcakes..not an elaborate celebration cake here. I consider myself a professional cupcake maker who sells bulk bespoke cupcakes..if I was to ever produce any of these designs my labour would be sky high with very little monetary gain!! And if you haven't got an airbrush kit, kiss goodbye to attempting many of the designs...all in all a very bad buy!!

There are some very elaborate and intricate designs for decorating cupcakes in this book. However, they are complicated and will take a very long time to complete. There are lots of instructions and lovely photos of the completed cupcakes and I may take a few ideas away but I doubt I will ever make any. Some of the designs involve having a dozen or more cupcakes arranged in a certain manner to complete the image. Novel but not very practical. Other cupcakes have so much fondant icing on them that they would be far too sickly to eat, plus, after all the time taken to make the figures such as animals sat atop the bun, it would be a shame to eat them! There are also techniques like air-brushing involved that many people will not have the equipment to do.
On saying this, it is a nice book to flick through and some of the cupcake designs have a real "wow" factor but it is a coffee table book and not a book that I will use.
