Planet of the Apes (1968)
Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall star in this legendary science fiction masterpiece. Astronaut Taylor (Heston) crash lands on a distant planet ruled by apes who use a primitive race of humans for experimentation and sport. Soon Taylor finds himself among the hunted, his life in the hands of a benevolent chimpanzee scientist (McDowall).

Offers Spanish, Hungarian and Polish language dubbing and Spanish, Polish, Hungarian, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Romanian, Portuguese and Greek subtitles.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
In the acclaimed sequel to Planet of the Apes, another astronaut (James Franciscus) crashes through the time barrier searching for the missing Taylor. The daring rescue leads to a subterranean city where mutant humans, who practice mind control, worship a weapon capable of destroying the entire planet. Both an action-oriented science-fiction adventure and a wry commentary on today's world, it's imaginative entertainment for fantasy buffs of all ages.

Offers Italian and Polish language dubbing and Italian, Polish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles.

Escape From the Planet of the Apes (1971)
Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter reprise their roles from the original Planet of the Apes in this third chapter of the Apes saga. Two intelligent simians from the future, Cornelius (McDowall) and Zire (Hunter) travel to present-day Earth. They become instant sensations, wined and dined and treated like celebrities--until a high-level plot forces them to run for their lives.

Offers Italian and Polish language dubbing and Italian, Polish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles.

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)
Colourful, futuristic sets, a relentless pace and an action-packed climax highlight the fourth episode of the legendary Apes saga, starring Roddy McDowall and Ricardo Montalban. The time is the near future. Apes have supplanted dogs and cats as household pets, and replaced servants as personal assistants--until their continual mistreatment provokes one advanced ape from the future, Caesar (McDowall), to lead a spectacular revolt. It's thrilling science fiction that offers both a serious message and stirring entertainment.

Offers Italian and Polish language dubbing and Italian, Polish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles.

Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
Roddy McDowall and Claude Akins star in the fifth chapter of the legendary Apes saga. Set in 2670 A.D., an idyllic society of man and ape is threatened by both a militant gorilla (Akins) and a tribe of still-intelligent mutant humans. Finally, simmering tensions dividing the primates erupt in an apocalyptic climax. When the smoke clears, the carnage is everywhere, but there is hope for a new beginning for man and ape. Co-starring John Huston, Paul Williams, and Lew Ayres.

Offers Italian and Polish language dubbing and Italian, Polish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles.

Planet of the Apes (2001)
Mark Wahlberg stars in Tim Burton's action-packed epic as an astronaut who crash lands onto a savage planet where talking apes rule over humans. Now he must defeat an entire gorilla army and reach a temple that holds the secrets of mankind's past... and the last hope for its salvation.

Offers French language dubbing and French, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish subtitles.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
From WETA, the creators of Avatar comes the ultimate sci-fi re-boot--Rise of the Planet of the Apes. An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Offers English audio description and Spanish, French, Portuguese and Chinese Mandarin language dubbing and Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch and Chinese Mandarin subtitles.

A must-have boxset! 18 Dec 2011
Format:DVD
This is a must-have boxset of my favourite film franchise. Each film is within a thin DVD case. A beautiful thing. The only downside being you know another boxset will be released when the sequel to Rise is released.

The great thing about the Planet of the Apes franchise is the longetivity of it; 43 years so far as the idea behind it is still as fresh today as it was back in the 60s.

For the ignorant, the boxset covers the original film 'Planet of the Apes' (my favourite film of all time), a film with obvious then-topical political themes and one-liners still quoted today and an ending a film-maker would die for! The four sequels 'Beneath The Planet of the Apes', 'Escape From The Planet of the Apes', 'Conquest Of The Planet of the Apes' and 'Battle For The Planet of the Apes', despite their ever decreasing budget created a much loved world. Tim Burton's average 're-imagining' 'Planet of the Apes' threatened to destroy the franchise but you can't keep a good thing down and eventually 2011 saw the 2nd yet successful attempt to relaunch the franchise with 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes.' The characterisation of the apes and special effects was, for me, the success of the film, with unfortunately the storyline being a little too simple and linear to my liking.

I rate this boxset a 5 out of love for the franchise and a superb boxset produced.

Still waiting for a definitive boxset which includes the TV and cartoon series.

Great bargain 4 Feb 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bought this for my 11 year old son - mainly for the newest films but he just loves the original versions as well. Great price from Amazon - half the price of anywhere else. I thought I would just bin the older films but these are getting more use than the more recent films.
