Planet 51 is a galactic-sized animated alien adventure comedy revolving around American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker, who lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world reminiscent of a cheerfully innocent 1950s America, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders...like Chuck! With the help of his robot companion "Rover" and his new friend Lem, Chuck must navigate his way through the dazzling, but bewildering, landscape of Planet 51 in order to escape becoming a permanent part of the Planet 51 Alien Invaders Space Museum.

Andrew’s Blu-ray Review: Awash in sci-fi movie and 1950’s pop-culture references, ‘Planet 51’ is an animation film that I would have to say was grossly under-appreciated during its cinema run.

First class animation, entertaining story, lots of nice 'sci-fi movie' references (especially ET & Star Wars), good music and it's set in a 'alien' version of 1950's America - what's not to like. As a 40-something year old male I wasn't expecting much from this film but it really is very good and certainly not merely a 'kids' film (the various references to old movies and a few grown up jokes kept this relative oldie entertained). Perhaps it's not quite as 'cool' as Shrek! but in the privacy of my own front room (or the dark of the cinema!) who cares about that. If you are looking for a bit of escapism done in a style that would have been truly sci-fi when I was a kid (especially in Blu-Ray) then this is well worth a look.

A nice storyline, with some loveable characters (Rover!) and some interesting nods to other classic sci-fi films! Its overall a good film, nothing brilliant but entertaining nonetheless!

Another sci-fi cartoon about alien invaders from another planet, causing chaos among the population, only this time the aliens are a N.A.S.A. astronaut and his robotic 'Rover', and the population is green, have antenna and live in a world that everyone would recognize as 50s america, complete with over-staffed gas stations, comic book shops, rock and roll and cinemas showing alien invader films. Tipping its hat at a lot of 50s-60s sci-fi films, there are enough cute characters to keep the children happy and plenty of parody to amuse the accompanying adults.

I found it a very entertaining movie with quite a few laughs. I guess it's down to taste and I'm aware that we are all different, especially when it comes to comedy, but I urge you to give this one a chance. Although it's not perfect, I've seen much, much worse... Recommended.

Dwayne Johnson who is also known as The Rock does the voice for "Chuck" an American astronaut who lands on this alien planet called Planet 51. His robot companion "Rover" acts like a dog and the alien dogs look like the aliens from the "Alien films" with acid wee too. There are many little funny bits taken from other classic Sci-fi movies like E.T. and War Of The Worlds. Planet 51 each meant to be set during the 1950's and Chuck being stuck on this planet is the alien to it's inhabits. Overall I feel we are be overloaded with these computer animated films which means it takes something really good to impress me alot these days. Wall-E and Up were 5 star films and for me Planet 51 is a 3 star film which is still enjoyable just not brilliant.

It may not be a Pixar blockbuster but there are plenty of sly jokes and 'homage' scenes for adults to enjoy. It's a bit soft-centered at times, but hey, it's a kids movie after all. Good fun.
