Based on a true story, Planespotting tells the story of 14 harmless plane spotters who find themselves arrested for behaving 'suspiciously' at an airbase in remote Greece. What started out as an extraordinary farce soon became deadly serious when the spotters were held in squalid Greek prisons. At the centre of the scandal are the Coppins, a belated honeymoon couple played by Lesley Sharp (The Second Coming) and Mark Benton (Early Doors) who had organised the trip as part of the their belated honeymoon. With diplomatic intervention comes more trouble as Greek national pride is stirred and the group are forced to spend five weeks locked up awaiting trial. The result sees the group sensationally convicted of spying and given suspended prison sentences. Facing mounting legal bills, the group's freedom is at stake with each and every spotter having to appeal to clear their name.

ONE REASON THAT I GAVE 5 STARS IS BECAUSE THIS MOVIE REVEALS THE OLD FASHION/ AUTHORITARIAN STYLE OF GREEK BUREAUCRACY.I AM GREEK AND I FEEL ASHAMED FOR THE TREATMENT THAT THOSE PEOPLE GOT IN SOUTHERN GREECE.THE NATIONALISM AND THE OBSESSION WITH THE ARMY IS SOMETHING THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH GREECE.THOSE BRITS THEY WERE VERY UNLUCKY AND THEY END UP TO JAIL....FOR NO REASON UNDER TERRIBLE AND INHUMAN CONDITIONS THAT GREEK STATE SHOULD APOLOGISE AND FEEL EMBARASED.BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED AND I AM WONDERING WHY THE EU DOESNT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT???

HAVE IN MIND THAT THE GREEK ARMY IS A JOKE.GREECE PRETENDS TO HAVE AN ARMY AND NOONE TAKES IT SERIOUSLY,NOT EVEN THE SOLDIERS THEMSELVES, EXCEPT OF COURSE THE VERY FANATICS THAT UNFORTUNATELY EXIST IN OUR DAYS...

ANYWAY...IS POLITICAL THE ISSUE.GREECE IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND COULD BE MORE BEAUTIFUL IF THE PEOPLE THE STATE AND THE MENTALITY WERE MORE "EUROPEAN" AND NOT SO OLD FASHION AND ROUGH....
